Finally Moules & Frites as good as the ones I had in Brussels! The portion size is huge...but oh-so-tasty! And, it must have been my lucky day...their special appetizer was Foie Gras over Belgium Waffle (sounds weird, but it worked). We ordered one to share. It was so worth the $18 price tag...there must have been 4 pieces of Foie Gras over 2 waffle halves with a salad on the side. It was SOOOOOO Good, we went back 2 nights later; it was even better the 2nd time around!

By the reviews here we had Hugh expectation. We came in on Saturday night. A party of 6including two kids. We waited way over an hour to the food. The waiter then apologized that they are missing one of their cooks. Well if you can't serve that many people you better cancel than offer what we got.
The food: the country pâté was not very mediocre, the muscles were pretty good. The lobster tail entree came with tampura fried which was awful with veggies that were nt seasoned at all. The beef borginion was blunt and the quail was ok.
The kids ordered grilled chicken and fried. The waiter was nice to offer also veggies. But we got fried chicken instead. The service- the waiter while not great wasn't bad but the time we waited for the food and then for the check and then for the credit card to be picked up...
What a shame for potentially nice place.

We read all the wonderful reviews and although we knew they had no children's menu we were sure to find something for them which proved right. We ordered mussels, escargots, pâté for starters. The pâté was not good the mussels and escargots were fine. Then we ordered quail, fish dish (bass), tail of lobster (fried in tempura), and a beef dish. The time we waited between the starters and main course was an hour. We came early at 6 p.m. We left 7:45, this was outrageous. The food was disappointing, except the quail. Small portions, high price. We did ask the waiter what the problem was he said they were missing one chef. On this busy weekend with so many reservations the owners should have done something. Either not accept so many reservations or caution the guests that its a long wait. Sorry but I do not have one good word to say about this restaurant considering the high rating it got.

What a pleasant surprise, authentic moules frites in San Antonio, who woulda thunk it? Perfectly prepared, Nova Scotia mussels, well done frites and a glass of Duvel in a cute, well appointed bistro made for a perfect lunch. A welcome escape from the Riverwalk!

Having had mussels in Brussels many many times, I was skeptical when my wife asked if we could dine at La Frite. What a surprise! As good, if not better, than what I have experienced in Brussels. The moules et frites were fantastic! The restaurant is small compared to other SA restaurants, but that helps add to the European feel. A very nice selection of Belgian beers, as well as other non-mussel meals. They were very busy on the Friday we visited, but with a reservation were seated very quickly. Service, food, drink, and atmosphere were all excellent. The waffle dessert was off the mark, but not enough to detract from our overall great experience. If you are looking for a break from standard San Antonio fare, check out La Frite!
