Ayres in 1912, the Colonial Room Restaurant reflects the prevailing neoclassical style of its time. Decades of elaborate balls and parties have been hosted in this room.Among the celebrities who have dined here are Presidents Grant and McKinley, Robert E. Lee, and French actress Sarah Bernhardt. The Colonial Room Restaurant's famous mango ice cream was served at both of President Clinton’s inaugurations. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Colonial Room Restaurant features a fabulous noontime brunch and traditional entrees such as prime rib au jus and lamb shank with linguini. Don't miss the popular Sunday brunch buffet, which tastes even better at a table in the garden courtyard.

“Great brunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 23, 2012 via mobile

It was our first visit to San Antonio and we had some friends driving a long way to see us. So we looked for something special i.e. nice food and nice atmosphere, we found both. The buffet is huge, with a wide selection of food that others already described. No chance we could taste it all, but whatever we ate was fresh and tasty. Service was excellent. We sat there leisurely for a few hours enjoying the company and the dining. I must compliment the proprietors of the establishment for maintaining the old lovely decor and the excellent food.

“Traditional restaurant in a nice old hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2012 via mobile

While staying at the Menger, I had several meals at the hotel dining room, I first had dinner, part of the Sisters Grimm ghost tour. The chicken picante was very tasty served with a salad and potatoes and carrots. The atmosphere is so very nice and refined. The next morning, I stopped by and they were serving Sunday brunch. Although it looked scrumptious, I passed.., just too much food! It was 18.00 and was available till 2pm. That night I ordered room service from the restaurant and had a really good burger. The following morning I had breakfast, ham and eggs. The ham was really good, thick and lean. Overall, it wasn't cheap, but it was more reasonable than many hotels I stayed it. It's a beautiful old dining room in a beautiful old hotel. If you are in town on a Sunday... Go for the brunch. And absolutely, consider the sisters Grimm ghost tour..., so much fun and a lovely meal!

“Excellent!”

We went for the famous mango ice cream, which is the most amazing dessert! We were delighted by an amazing, excellent guitarist, Fernando, from México. Definitely we are going back again! It feels very good to have such good Music, Food and Service at the same time! Congratulations!! Btw, on a previous visit Sunday Brunch was awesome!

“This is the best.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

If you are from out of town, or even if you are a local, in San Antonio the Colonial Room of the Menger Hotel is the best place to go for a special occasion. I just returned from there moments ago, celebrating Christmas with a group of friends. I will mention a few of the dishes that I liked the best: squash soup, baked apples with carmelized onion and feta cheese, shrimp and pasta, baked salmon, and my favorite, bread pudding with rum sauce. Everyone raved about the pecan pie. A reservation is necessary during the holidays if you have a big group. The atmosphere is elegant, and the service excellent. Try it!

“Delicious Friday Seafood Buffet”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

It's not advertised at all,but this Friday Seafood Buffet is incredible. The Historic restaurant is a beautiful background for a delicious feast. Cold boiled peel and eat shrimp, salads, soups, hot entrees and home made desserts to die for. You can scoop out your own ice cream. It was strawberry last friday. Went on my birthday with some friends and it was such a treat! You do need to make reservations way in advance for this one. It's all of $17.00 and included tea and coffee. They have really updated the hotel and gardens and you will feel like you have been on a historic vacation dining here!...Bon Appetite!
