“IDEAL LOCATION GOOD VALUE”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

We stayed three nights and have no complaints. The building itself is beautifully restored with little surprises everywhere - the old bank vaults and the way to the river walk for example. The location is ideal within walking distance to everything you want in San Antoinio and with the 5.30 kickback (food and three alcoholic drinks) and breakfast every day is good value for money. We don't ever take into account parking fees when travelling as when you visit a main city it would be naïve to expect to park for anything less than $20 a day.

The view from the cathedral terrace and the rooftop pool is worth seeing. We had two rooms - 4 adults in one and 2 in another - and both were clean, bright and certainly big enough.

Overall an excellent stay and very good value particularly given the location.

We had a relaxing stay at Drury Plaza Hotel Riverwalk. Last year we stayed at Drury Inn and Suites North which was also a pleasant stay. We love the "the extras ain't extra" idea, and returned to the downtown Drury for its convenient location and great value for a family of four.

We arrived on the Thanksgiving Day, and parked our car at the Market Street Parking Garage, which is very close to the hotel ($15 a day). We didn't use our car during the four day stay, and thoroughly enjoyed our downtown fun.

Although the hotel was located at the west end of the Riverwalk, it was close to most places in downtown. You can get down to the riverwalk just a short block. There was a Rio boat tour starting point right there. Streetcar stop is right before the building on the Market Street (daily pass is $4, very reasonable).

We liked our room at San Fernado Tower. San Fernado Tower was added above the garage, so it looks new and renovated than the main building. It does take two elevators and a hall way. But it was not that long, even my 3 year old can walk by herself.

We had a two room suite with two queen beds, a terrace and a Jacuzzi. The room was not divided by the actual door which the king bed suites has. So there is not complete privacy between living area and bedroom area. The bathroom has a separate shower too.

The queen bed room suites are faced to south. The king suites has a better view which directly faces to San Fernado Tower. But we still loves our view especially evenings. We stayed at 12th floor (the highest is 14th at San Fernado Tower), and we can hear the traffic during the evening. But that was just downtown feeling, and it doesn't bother us, although we lives in suburb area. My husband actually missed our old downtown apartment and spent lots of time on the terrace. The blankets were kind of thin, but they do provide extra blanket and comforter in the closet. The beds were not the most comfortable type, but we slept good.

We visited the heated indoor poor which is located on the 9th floor in San Fernado Tower. My kids loved the pool which was warm and clean. We also visited the terrace area which was just outside the indoor poor area on the 9th floor. There is another 22th floor terrace area which was enclosed with glass. We feel safe and cozy on the terrace. The sunset was beautiful.

This was an old Alamo National Bank building. You can still see ANB market on the elevator floor. We have read reviews about slow elevator services. We felt the elevators were fine. Only one night, the boat parade evening, there was a long line at the elevator to second floor dining area. We just walked the stairs.

The hotel staff was very friendly and always greeted us. The breakfast was very nice. They frequently provided the fresh dishes. The evening reception was not fancy, but good enough for a tired family of four. We almost had dinner at hotel every day, and just ate lunch at riverwalk restaurants with a view.

To us, we like a hotel which is not necessarily fancy, but comfortable enough for a family. We appreciate the space. After kids go to bed, we can still have nice sitting area or terrace to have a drink. The kids enjoyed heated indoor pool and outdoor pool. They love lemonade and popcorn which are always available. We loved three free drinks every day without going to the bar. Space, free food and drink, free food, swimming pool and terrace, that’s just all we want.

My 6 year old son has already asked me when we can return to the Drury Plaza. We will travel to California in Christmas, and was regret to see there was none Drury at California. Hopefully Drury can develop more nice hotels across the country.

Room Tip: San Fernado Tower is a new section, and has large suites and good view.

SOoo glad we chose Drury Plaza at the river walk! The location has been great. The converted bank building was quirky and fun! Convenient to everything, with fabulous views from the rooftop terrace (23 floor). Beautiful view of San Fernando Cathedral from our room. Do Not Miss the roof top view-especially at night! Very crowded for the parade weekend but that just adds to the fun! More people watching! The terrace room was worth the extra $$ for us. Very interesting to watch the street scene! Kickback was crowded but nice. Had to wait on elevators, even gave up and took the stairs a few times! So if you dont like crowds dont come on parade weekend! Great time in San Antonio. Would love to come back and if I do, I would stay at Drury Plaza again!!

We stayed at the Drury Plaza Hotel Riverwalk over Thanksgiving and while all of the staff was extremely helpful (except the woman at the front desk when we checked in), the furniture in the room was so ugly and outdated. There was this weird, striped recliner that looked like it came from my great grandmother's house. Ugh. So unattracted we didn't even want to sit in it. And the carpet was very old and gross. We checked in around 10pm on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and even though there were better rooms (higher priced) available, the woman at the front desk refused to upgrade us to one for free. It would have costs us $25 or $30 more per night. When we stayed at The Courtyard Riverwalk during the summer, they did upgrade up to a better room for free ... we got a great room with a balcony overlooking the riverwalk at no extra charge. We were wishing we had stayed at the Courtyard again instead. Pros include very helpful staff in general. When we would see staff members in the hallways, etc. they would almost always ask if we needed any help, etc. I thought this was impressive. The free breakfast was great and once again, the staff was so helpful. We didn't get to partake of the free happy hour because we didn't make it back to our room until late both nights but I'm sure it was nice too. However for the price we paid - $119 per night plus $19 per night plus tax for parking, we probably would not choose this hotel again. I appreciate the historic aspect of the old bank building turned hotel but the lowest price room was tiny and outdated. For the money, the Courtyard Riverwalk is a better deal.

Room Tip: IF you do decide to stay at this hotel, you'll need to pay the higher price to get a better room...

What a beautiful hotel , (we picked it because of the restored art deco look) gorgeous lobby (originally Alamo National Bank built in the 1920's or so), ornate gold leaf trim work in the soaring lobby with a huge stained glass window depicting the Alamo, original teller windows where you check in, very ornate elevator doors. Great service, walk downstairs right onto the Riverwalk, free hot heavy hor dourves each evening plus 3 free drinks per person, free hot breakfast in the morning, all the doors and most of the trim in the hotel are Walnut, friendly staff, clean rooms, good room service.Rooftop heated pool plus 2 hottubs, great views of San Antonio, indoor heated pool also.Don't forget to visit Gruene (Green) exit 191 on Interstate 35 ,great old town ,eat at the Gristmill Restaurant, great shops. Also huge store outlet mall on exit 200 Interstate 35. We had a great time walking the Riverwalk (take the riverboat cruise, its fun for about $8 per person ) , going up the Tower of The Americas and visiting the Alamo(the hotel is walking distance to everything) . The only downside to the hotel was that even though we were on the 15th floor there was a bus stop below us and starting very early in the morning you can hear pretty loud buses coming every 10 -15 minutes or so ,so hard to sleep in.I would try for a room away from the bus stops, otherwise a great stay

Room Tip: Watch out for the bus stop below the room, get a room away from the bus stop if you can

The Drury Plaza has a nice historic feel to it, and its location very close to the River Walk (it's a block away, but you can get there via a tunnel that goes under the street) makes it a good option if that's important to you (as it was to me). Free breakfast (not bad, eggs, sausage, etc.) and free drinks with light food (hot dogs, pasta, baked potato) in the evening helped make up for the fairly steep price (about $200 a night for a room with a king bed). The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and I felt everyone there took giving good service very seriously. The room itself was fairly non-descript, but everything worked, and the water pressure was very nice. Two complaints: (1) you could hear cars below during the night, but that's to be expected in an inner city hotel, and (2) there is a small vent in the room that blows fresh air 24 hours a day. I found the noise annoying, as I sleep very lightly. I called the operator, and she said there was no way to turn it off (there should be a way).

Overall a good experience; next time I won't automatically go back there without looking further, but I wouldn't rule it out, either. You can pay more for being on the River Walk, but I don't have experience to say whether it'd be worth it (even if you can afford it). If you eat two meals a day at the hotel for free, it probably becomes one of the least expensive options for the location.

Oh, and if you stay there (or even if you don't), go up to the roof (they have a pool and two hot tubs there), from where there is a beautiful view of the city (23 stories up).

We stayed at this hotel upon recommendation of several friends that have stayed there in the past.

The location is perfect, we were within walking distance of many of the places we visited. It was a very safe location, we felt comfortable walking around at night.
The hotel itself took safe measures and required a swipe of the room key to gain entrance.

The hotel is beautiful! We really enjoyed the history behind it. I did detect a musty smell in the hall, but it wasn't strong enough to be overly offensive.

The staff was wonderful! They really made you feel like they cared. I feel they went out of their way to assure that we had a good experience at their hotel.

We were there for the Riverwalk Christmas parade and I really appreciate how Drury's offered complimentary seating for its guest.

The breakfast and afternoon snacks were very nice. By all the people that were in there eating I think I can say that we all appreciate this added touch. They even allowed us to fix our plates and bring them out for the parade.

Parking was $19, which was a reasonable price compared to parking in that area. Valet was very quick and pleasant. An error was made on my 2nd night's bill and they did not charge us for our valet. I called the error to their attention and they were kind enough to let it go.

The swimming pool was very clean and was enjoyed by my family. So happy to have an indoor pool in the cold months.

The bath wash, shampoo, and conditioner were in large compartments affixed to the bath, this is not convenient if you are taking a bath. I personally would rather individual bottles like I get in other hotels.

Overall, great experience!
