We (party of 3) ate there for dinner on a Thursday evening in August. You order at the counter and it is cafeteria style. Get your tray and find a table. We all agreed that the brisket was very good but the sides were ugh! The macaroni and cheese was mushy and devoid of flavor. The potato salad and creamed corn were average to below average. We live locally and our conclusion was that only the brisket would warrant a return visit. So, for us, it will be a take-out of brisket only. Come home, and serve with our own sides.

We visited this establishment on a Saturday night before a concert at Sunken Gardens Amphitheater. We had heard a lot of favorable things, but we were extremely disappointed about the food and the service.

My wife had the brisket plate and the meat, while served in a normal portion, was more fat than meat, even after the cook had trimmed off the most obvious fat from the brisket. My pulled pork sandwich was missing the slaw, even though it is advertised on the picture on the menu. The beans were ordinary, and the potato salad was standard institutional quality from a large bucket, not made in-house. The bread was not stale, but close to it.

Regarding the service, the prep cook left us standing at the counter for nearly 5 minutes without so much as acknowledging we were there. A simple "I'll be with you in a moment", would have been a welcome recognition of our presence. When we attempted to order wine, the cashier seemed unaware of the options, not knowing what wines they had.

The bathrooms were clean, and there was ample seating. All in all, a mediocre meal at best. There are plenty of better options for Barbeque in this Texas town, so a visit to this restaurant would be unnecessary.

Had a great lunch here after the Japanese tea gardens. Food is great- pulled pork plate tender, great flavor, cole slaw was excellent. Very quick but good food

Visited with some local friends for lunch. The good news is they make everything fresh and not reheated so that means they run out of things. We visited around 1:00 on a weekday and they were out of about everything. No pork or beef ribs, no pulled pork, no Mac n cheese, no potatoes, no cream corn. Hard to order that way, our son actually asked, what do you have?
They did have a pork rib, beef brisket, sausage, chicken and burgers.
The pork rib had great flavor but was really tough and dry. Almost like a jerky.
The brisket also had good flavor but was really fatty. The kids liked the chicken, Nd the sausage was ok. The sides were average, corn from a can, beans with a good flavor and fries.
All in all it was just an ok lunch, but not awe inspiring that makes you want to tell all your friends. Prices were very reasonable for portion sizes and ambiance was cool.

Took a trial tonight to eat locally and avoid the big chains Augie's caught my eye as close to my quarters easily accessible off 281 N and near a local college. Ir was
Not much to look and inside is quaint and
Very casual .It was well attended by people and families who seemed likely locals I ordered a two meat combo and it was superb! For the price the quantity was reasonable but the meats were juicy and flavorful and proved a good value. It is plastic utensils and plates but I think it will seer more often on subsequent trips to San Antonio
