We had dinner at La Hacienda with family and everyone enjoyed their dinner, even the little ones. There was a good variety of Mexican food which was as good or better than any other mexican rest. we have eaten at. The inside dining area was very clean and appealing. There is a very large outside area which we are looking forward to using when the weather gets warmer.

We love this place! Great food at very reasonable prices. Waiter was excellent and helped us with our orders. A LOT of food was served and we enjoyed every last bite.

This place is definitely not a chain restaurant. It is family run and the recipes have been in the family for decades. Sitting outdoors is really the way to go. This restaurant is on a large piece of property and everything is vast not cramped. The food is great and the service is outstanding. Prices are very modest for the level of service and atmosphere that is provided.

We chose to dine at Hacienda de lof Barrios as it was featured on a list of the best outdoor dining spots in San Antonio. Though it was a little bit of a drive from downtown, about 15 minutes, the patio was certainly worth it. While you don't really get a view of anything other than the rest of the patio, the ambiance itself it very conducive to a long meal with friends or family, sipping a margarita and enjoying some mole.

I wouldn't describe the neighborhood as the nicest in San Antonio, and as we were driving in, I almost reconsidered stopping as we drove past several storage units and what looked like abandoned stores, and indeed the restaurant itself warns you with signs all over the place not to leave valuables in your car leading me to believe they have had a problem with theft in the past. The restaurant itself is like a beautiful bastion in an otherwise bleak landscape though. Very clean and modern looking, you quickly forget the less than desirable neighborhood you just came through to get there.

The patio really feels homey though and is incredibly inviting. Though we had just landed and were in a bit of a hurry, we sat and sipped very good margaritas for a while while perusing the huge menu. We eventually decided on two specialities, puffy tacos and chicken mole. The tacos are similar to chalupas, a kind of deep fried taco shell apparently common in the region. These were very good though a little dry. The generous portion of beans and salsa helped with that though. The mole was spectacular. For some reason, we were given a small sample first, I guess because the authentic mole is different than what many people have had before and they didn't want us to be surprised. It was delectable. Nice and smokey with a stronger than normal taste of peanut. This was really the star of the meal. The chicken was also cooked expertly, not too dried out as is common with the shredded fowl found with mole. We put that stuff on everything!

The service was good, but forgettable. They mostly just left us alone and only came by when we were out of something. I'm ok with that type of service.

We visited in early November, and while not cold out, it was a bit chilly so they had patio heaters available for each table. This also meant the patio was largely available and we missed a chance for live music which would have added to the atmosphere, but even without it, we really felt comfortable and at home.
