This was a great choice found on Tripadvisor!

The location was great. Cross the street and you are on the Alamo grounds, cross the other direction and you are entering the mall. Cross two streets and you are at Ripley's. If you are traveling to Texas in summer, that is about as far as you want to walk anyway!

The room was spacious with enough room for all the kids to find their own space to play and we had a good view of the trees around the Alamo. The pool is super small, however the Menger is owned by the same company and allows Crockett guests to swim over there. The breakfast was really good, but seating is limited. Breakfast consisted of waffles, eggs, eggs with sausage, beans and tortillas. All the usual fruits and drinks are also there.

The air conditioning in the room really does sound like a jet taking off when it starts, and it cycles all night. If you are a light sleeper, this could be a big issue.

Top Tip: Pay for valet, it is the same rate either way, and they re-parked the vehicle after we checked out so we could finish our sightseeing.

My son and I just stayed at the Crockett Hotel for two nights. Overall we were quite pleased with the hotel. The staff was great, the rooms were clean, breakfast was fine (great coffee!). Not sure why it's getting such poor reviews. The hotel is within steps of the Rivercenter mall, the riverwalk and the Alamo. We parked our car and didn't need it at all during our stay. Yes, the rooms are small but what more do you need than a couple of beds, a desk, a tv and a chair or two? It's not like we were ballroom dancing.

Our only complaint (and one that we voiced to the desk at checkout) was that housekeeping came to our door at 8:30 the morning of our last day and even after I explained that we were checking out they came back at 9:30. It left us feeling rushed when I would have preferred a more leisurely morning. 8:30 seems a bit early for housekeeping no matter what the situation so I'd suggest putting the "Please do not disturb" card out.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the back corner of the Alamo and the Menger Hotel. No traffic noise and a...

Attended the District Convention of th South Texas District; initially was assgined a very small room with a view towards the Alamo; Requested a bigger room an was assigned a corner room that satisfied my needs; beds and pillows where confortable; the hotel is historic and is located in the heart of San Antonio; next to the Alamo and two blocks from the river walk; the price for the room was reasonable; it listed continental breakfast but in essence it was a full breakfast with eggs, beans, cereal, fruits and waffle; the only negative was that parking was limited so you had to use the valet parking at additional $20 a nite;

Room Tip: Request corner rooom; be prepared to walk once you arrive to see the historic sights;

My feelings are mixed on the Crockett. We booked through a dot com reduced rate site for $126.00. That turned into $169.00 with tax and parking. If you don't have a lot of luggage, it is actually cheaper to park across the street in public parking.

The location of the Crockett is great if you want to be directly across the street from the Alamo and nearby attractions that will not require you to even get in the car. There are lots of carnival-like attractions for kiddos (haunted house, mirror maze, mini golf, etc. etc.) that you might like. If you don't want to spend money for those, and if you are traveling with children, you probably don't want to put them in front of temptation.

The hotel itself is very dated...old without the charm of old...so if you are looking for that, I'd probably suggest trying to find a deal on the Menger, which is right across the street. There are also new hotels just a few blocks up on the river walk that are comparable in price and do not face the kiddie attractions.

The pool area is very pretty if you do not mind having to go out the front door to get to it. The pool itself is very, very small, and if your children are tweens or teens, they will not like it.

The Crockett does offer what I consider a better than average breakfast that is included in the price of your room. Bottom line is that it is all according to what you want in a hotel and location.

Room Tip: I only saw a double room, and it was certainly fine...although small as you would expect in an older...

I was very shocked at how little the Crockett offered for the huge amount they charged. No restaurant, no hot tub, dirty room (hair everywhere in the bathroom), disgusting pool, the TV didn't work ( but they didn't care and couldn't fix it or switch our room). We paid double what we paid at the Menger last year and they had everything we wanted and needed. I won't stay again and won't recommend it to anyone.

Thank for being our guest and taking the time to provide us some feedback about your recent stay. We also appreciate your prior visit to our sister property, The Historic Menger Hotel.

We strive everyday to meet and exceed our guests expectations, and we feel badly when we fail to do so. We are certainly a different type of hotel from the Menger, being a smaller, boutique select-service hotel. We will share your comments with our staff so that they may gain a better understanding of our guests expectations. We value all the feedback we receive so we may continually improve our operation.

We do have a restaurant and it provides a complimentary breakfast daily. It was prior to 2006 when the hotel operated a three-meal restaurant operation. Since that time, we have worked with several restaurants that deliver to the hotel as a convenient option for other meal periods. We have also found that many of our guests enjoy the variety of the over 50 restaurants in our neighborhood.

Our rates (at both hotels) do vary depending on the season and local travel demand. It appears you visited the Menger in a slower time than this visit, on a mid-summer high demand weekend. This would explain a higher room rate than what you paid previously.

We do hope to be able to welcome you back in the future and will deliver to you the professional and friendly customer service that so many of our guests have experienced.

definitely very accessible... though the pillows are way too soft and we could hear everything outside the hotel, e.g. horses trotting... people laughing...
Breakfast was the same every day though not much variety... nevertheless the guest got to make our own waffle in the shape of texas.... how cool was that...
overall it was a nice place to stay in

I had to spend some time in San Antonio recently, so parlayed my nights between the Crockett and the Menger hotels. The Crockett was pleasant and accommodating. The room was clean with a comfortable bed. The bar was average with average pricing.
They do not have a restaurant, but they are right across the street from the Morton Steak House a couple of blocks from the Riverwalk reataurants and very near the downtown mall. Parking was $18.00. I would recommend it as something a little more quaint with a totally different character from the Merriots, etc. I would not ask the front desk staff for their restaurant recommendations, if they are reflective of where they sent me for authentic Mexican food.... Mexican Manhattan (unless there are two of these retaurants in SA)... don't go! I had fajitas and everything was so bad I only ate a couple of bites and called it quits, called a cab back to the hotel and had an ice cream at Hagen Das on the corner. The other complaint that I had was that the room I had was facing the street and although it had large wood shutters, the room was lit up all night due to the street lights. I would recommend it as a one-timer if you wanted quaint near the Alamo.

Room Tip: Check out the Menger next door.
