To start, don't get the Cheese Dip. It's from a can. That's the only negative I can say that stopped from giving all 5 stars. Enchiladas were great and the lunch was a good value. Will go back

Across from the post office is a little strip center with a weird hilly parking lot and this little tex-mex restaurant. The small store front belies the size of this place inside which is big enough to include a quaint bar area situated in front of the kitchen but still waiting on the liquor license.

When asked what was good, our waitress smiled and responded with the expected "everything" answer then produced a frequently handled, wrinkled looking copy of the Express-News (EN) that contained an article about the restaurant touting the tortillas and carne guisada among other menu items.

We decided on bean and cheese nachos to start. Disappointed in that they were the "piled" kind where some chips have nothing on them rather than the individually made kind, we thought the taste of the beans and cheese with a couple of hunks of avocado and plop of sour cream was just fine. Also, the thinness of the chips would not have supported an individual build.

The entrees we tried were cheese and beef enchiladas, puffy taco and carne guisada. The carne was tender and flavorful in its peppery gravy with no fatty meat pieces. Tons more gravy than meat, but the portion was not bad. The other aforementioned menu items were noteworthy as well. Funny thing, but the EN touted tortilla I had was a bit hard though they probably had been made that morning and it was already 3:30. Both borracho and refried beans were flavorful. The borracho were a bit different in that they more closely resembled chili beans with a reddish broth and ground beef as an ingredient.

I would certainly be willing to check out Checo's other menu items as well though as we had a good overall dining experience.

Went here for dinner 1-21-14 and it was horrible. The chicken was clearly out of can like tuna fish. Refried beans with grease on them and enchiladas that you had to search for on your plate. ONLY good thing on my plate was the Spanish rice.

I would NEVER go back here.
