This is our fourth visit to the Ranch and always in October over our fall break. We have 6 and 7 year old daughters who love coming here. The lazy river and the indoor/ourdoor pools provide a lot of fun play time for our girls and there are lots of places for adults to relax while the kids are playing. We enjoy the gym, hottubs, sauna and steam rooms as well. The staff in Camp Armadillo are great. We didn't put our kids in the camps sessions but we did do the daily arts and crafts although it wasn't as diverse this year as it has been in past years. The girls loved the new slushy machines in the camp. The camp did have some fun events for the kids like a sand castle building contest and diving for pearls. We also took advantage of the fire pits in the evenings and the free s'more kits.

There are both advantages and disadvantages to going during the down season. We loved the personal attention from the staff and the ease of getting a chair by the pool or lazy river. The restaurant was only open a couple of days we were there. Although we eat most of our meals in the condo it is nice to have the option to grab lunch by the pool or a margarita at happy hour.

The staff overall is excellent. Chris in the Rec Department was fantastic. Frequently checking in on us and our girls. He was also our 'personal trainer' while we were there as we were the only ones who showed up to the fitness sessions. We appreciated both Chris and CJ making the effort to adjust our workouts to change things up and challenge us. We went home feeling like we had maintained our fitness while on vacation.

Travis at the front desk was extremely helpful and accomodating. We knew him from previous years and he recognized us upon check in. He definitely improved our stay by helping us upgrade as well as helping with other things.

The resort grounds and accomodations are beautiful. Wonderful nature/jogging path. We love having a full kitchen and laundry and enjoying having meals on the balcony. We used the grill frequently which the staff will light for you upon request. Housekeeping did a nice job every day and we were always fully supplied with everything we needed.

The location is great. We always go to Sea World (cheaper tickets are on Craig's list) and the zoo is beautiful and only 20 minutes away. There are many things to see downtown including all the historical sites, the riverwalk and the Mexican market. Austin is an easy drive as are the caves and hill country.

This is a favorite vacation spot of ours an we will continue to go back.

The Ranch accommodations are extremely comfortable & well-thought out; the location is convenient to Austin, Fredericksburg & downtown San Antonio. This was our second visit.
The staff is exceptional, especially DON SHOWS, who very graciously helped us with an unfixable problem. It's the best for family vacations with its own Lazy River & its proximity to Sea World. And it is clean & well-maintained. dgm

Room Tip: The first floor is best.

This was a repeat visit for my husband and me, and we were definitely pleased again. We always enjoy spending time here when we travel to San Antonio area. The staff does everything possible to please. We had a few issues with the housekeeping, mostly with replacement of towels and amenities, but that was not enough to keep us from enjoying every moment of our week there. We shopped at Central Market for foods already prepared, and that gave us three dinner's worth of food in our unit which is very easy, since the kitchen is well-equipped. Our one bedroom unit was very comfortable, but we learned they will be refurbishing all the units soon. They plan to upgrade bedding, sofa, etc. in the near future, so we look forward to our next visit. The deck was large enough for more than one couple to sit around the table for evening drinks.
The Ice House on premises offers freshly-prepared sandwiches and soups and the Cantina offers a varied menu when it is open. At this time of year, occupancy is down so the Cantina is not open every day of the week. When it was open, we were there to drink the good Texas draft beers. The casual, Hill Country ambience is so comfortable and fitting for the resort, we hope it remains that way.
I spent time on the Rattlesnake River (lazy river) on the resort grounds, and I enjoyed having it mostly to myself this time of year. They have extended WiFi on premises, so now you can use your electronic devices while relaxing in a cabana by the river.
A really nice addition to Wild Oak Ranch is the putting green and space to have lunch or just enjoy the beautiful landscaping there.
Their fitness center is being upgraded, but we still were able to walk or run on good treadmills there. I hope they will consider adding weights lighter than 5 pounds for older folks who prefer doing frequent reps with lighter weights.
The pool continues to be very nice, with a water slide as an additional touch. There are plenty of activities for children, but we take advantage of the wine tasting and other adult functions.
Their sales office was very helpful and not pushy at all. Those who stay at Wild Oak Ranch can also enjoy using the facilities and restaurants at the nearby Hyatt Hill Country resort.
Would recommend Wild Oak Ranch if you are looking to relax in an unpretentious, more intimate setting. Feels like a home away from home, which makes it very special.

We spent a week at the beginning of October at the Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch. It's a great location, just minutes from Sea World, not too far from the airport or downtown. You are in the middle of a residential area, but you would never know it... the resort feels very "country" and it's nice and quiet.

We had a "2 bedroom" that really was a one bedroom unit with a studio unit attached. I think there are actual 2 bedroom units, but didn't get to see one. The studio feels a lot like a hotel room with the exception of a mini-kitchenette. You enter, and there's a bathroom to one side and the kitchenette almost directly opposite and then you enter the "room" which is the bed and a small sitting area. The one bedroom unit is much more spacious with a full small kitchen open to a dining room/living room combo. The bedroom is off to the side with a very large bathroom (incl. soaking tub!) that has entry from the bedroom or near the front door. We had a patio that could be accessed from the living and bedrooms. The kitchen comes "fully equipped" but if you are a cook, it's a bit inadequate. But I'm the person who has a bazillion things in my kitchen... The one thing that did disappoint in the kitchen was how terribly scratched the pots and pans were. It's really not healthy to cook on scratched nonstick items. Unfortunately, the maid service kept trying to come when the little ones were napping, so we did have to go a bit longer without trash changes than we would have liked.

The pools were quite nice. The "upper" pool is an indoor-outdoor pool with two water slides. Water isn't too deep (I could walk the entire pool) and there is a little "walk in" area for the itty-bitties. Indoors, there are "water cactus" water fountains for the kiddos to play in. The "lower" pool is an 800 foot (?) lazy river with a beach walk in area. There are pool bars at both locations, but as it was offseason, we didn't get to take advantage of them.

There is a "grocery" on property, but items are expensive. Drive to Target (has a grocery) or HEB for your necessities. Water and coffee were needed. TIP: skip the stand alone Starbucks near Target and go to the full service Starbucks embedded in Target.

The restaurant on property is a nice perk. You can grab drinks from there and take to the pool. Some of the food is pretty good (we thought the burgers were quite tasty, the salads we had were pretty good too) but other items aren't as good. NOTE: 15% gratuity is added to all orders - feel free to add to that as you see fit (we generally added as the service was fabulous - every visit). The restaurant is not open 7 days a week.

Rudy's BBQ is very close by. Quite tasty. Viola's is also nearby and will be recommended by the concierge - the food is barely passable but the prickly pear margaritas are delish!

What really makes this property stand out is the stellar staff. Everyone was so kind, and seemed to genuinely like their job and want to help you out. The staff gets around the property in golf carts and our 2 year old HAD to sit in every single golf cart we came across. Rather than be annoyed, the staff went out of their ways to keep him excited about them. A few times, he even got a spin around the parking lot. The 2 year old also has serious guitar fixation and there's a huge faux guitar above the bar at the restaurant. Our last night there, Dale pulled the guitar down so our little man could "play" it. Seriously, how awesome is that!?!??!?!?! Everywhere we turned, the service was above and beyond.

This location is nearly perfect for a family vacation. I just can't offer 5 stars because this isn't that category resort. For what it is, though, it's pretty darn awesome.

Room Tip: Skip the studio unit and go with a one-bedroom and you'll have easily twice the space.

This is truly one of the best if not the best resort we have ever stayed in. Staff is very friendly. The decor is very rustic and inviting. The rooms are spacious and clean. It's in an awesome location (minutes away from one of my favorite spots Seaworld). They have a regular shuttle that will take you there and bring you back to resort. Enough activities at resort to keep you busy. A huge indoor/outdoor pool, slides and a beautiful lazy river. Plus fiesta at night with food and dancing. We had an awesome time! Hope to come back :-)

Room Tip: We stayed in studio with a kitchenette. If you want more space and a full kitchen choose one or two...

This place was amazing. Rooms are clean and roomy. Love having a full kitchen available. There is something for everyone - pool, walking trails, lazy river, food, store on site,..
Sea World is very close. Hard to believe that it is located near a residential area. You feel like you are in the country. You are still close enough to downtown to do tourist activities and far enough out to enjoy peace and quiet and to just relax. Will definitely be back. Great place for family.
