While Mi Tierra is a tourist favorite -- you will notice that it is a favorite of the locals also -- they just come in the less crowded times between meals, and you should too, for best service.
Don't stick with the usual Tex-Mex standards like beef and chicken tacos and enchiladas. Try the Tacos del Mercado w/ Carnitas de puerco filling. Don't skip the charro or borracho beans. Eat along with some of the meat. Eat the large pieces of carnitas and leave the small ones in the tortilla, then add a spoon of beans, some pico and some guacamole -- you have a great taco that you'll be able to pick up and eat with your fingers. Do the same thing w/ the other tortilla of carnitas and you'll have a breakfast taco to go with your first cup of coffee tomorrow.
Finish with a flan and cup of coffee.
If you want a soft chicken taco, go with the Taco de Pollo con Mole. A great meal for your $$ and don't forget the flan -- share with friends, a bite or two will be enough.
And did I mention they serve breakfast -- don't miss. Try anything with eggs. Actually, they are open 24 hours a day. You can stop and have coffee or iced tea while you admire the Christmas trees and lights and the hanging papel picado.
Pickup some pan dulce on the way out -- get empanadas de comote and elotitos (look like corn) and puerquitos (pig cookies) to take home and for friends.
