The first five minutes of our visit were pretty good as we were warmly welcomed by the hostess and invited in for lunch. It was very quiet for a Saturday given the large crowds at the connected RiverCenter Mall and it was just past Noon. The service started OK with the delivery of drinks and taking of our orders.
For the food, the potato soup was lacking potato for our preference (3 chunks in an entire bowl) but had good flavor. Next came a steak and mushroom flatbread. The bread was very thin and not very crispy, and unfortunately most of the steak was lukewarm at best. Overall we thought this appetizer was a little bland.
After delivering the soup and appetizer, our waitress indicated our pulled pork sandwich would be "right out". But it was never delivered - nor did we ever see our waitress anywhere in the restaurant for at least the next 20 minutes (we stopped tracking after that and never did see her on the floor again). At that point with everyone else having finished their meal, we decided to leave money for the food and drinks that had been delivered. We informed the waiter at the nearby table of our departure and that we ‘lost’ our waitress and that hopefully she was OK. But no one else recognized the problem or checked in with our table, so we decided to leave. Note this was the first and only bad service experience we had in over 10 days in Texas.
Based on the food quality and service experience, we'd recommend trying some of the other restaurant options around the Riverwalk before settling for Tony Roma's.
