This is a comfortable, laid back type of restaurant with excellent food,. Served hot and quick. a place to wear your boots and have cold beer.

This Steakhouse is as funky as it is old. Its located on the outskirts of San Antonio, near the old Pearl Brewery on Josephine Street and has a regular customer base that seem to come there regularly. I've visited it off and on for more than 30 years. They serve Steaks, seafood and some italian meals. The menu is very simple and the meals plentiful. The cost is very reasonable. The dining area is co-located next to the bar where you can order up a whiskey or a bottle of beer.....No taps here. Did I forget to mention that it is located under a freeway overpass and has a Giant Tree Trunk in the middle of the dining room, which they apparently built the restaurant around.

You might notice the neon sign outside reads Whisky instead of Whiskey, but either way is correct. There's plenty of parking under the bridge. You can eat outside on picnic tables or step inside to a dining room jammed with tables and uncomfortable wooden booths. Also, watch your step as the wood floor is slightly slanted as a giant tree has grown through the floor. Unfortunately, only the trunk remains of this old fellow but it extends from the floor to the ceiling. Music plays from the jukebox and baseball caps hang on the wall behind the bar.

Although it wasn't on the menu, we shared a wedge salad which came with iceberg lettuce, diced tomatoes, bacon and just the right amount of blue cheese dressing, which was very tasty. We also had an order of chips and queso. The chips were warm and crispy but the queso was a little too thick for my taste and wasn't heated enough. My husband and cousin had the grilled trout, which came with an onion ring and it was very good. We also had the steamed broccoli and it was very fresh. The meal came with sliced bread, butter and crackers. My cousin ordered the pecan pie a la mode and she really enjoyed it.

We went on a Friday evening and it was quite packed with Spurs fans. A bus came by to pick up a group attending the game so there was quite an air of excitement post game time.

This restaurant has a personality to it. Our waitress was attentive and got our order perfect and got our food out to us very quickly. With the exception of the queso dip, the cooks did an excellent job on our food. The food that was being served around us looked really good and the food came out extremely fast after ordering.

It might be old, cramped and uncomfortable, but we'll definitely return for more good food.
We usually order the chicken fried steak and fried potatoes, which we'd definitely recommend, but this being lent, we opted for fish and vegetables.

Nothing fancy but always good.

Home cookin'. Steaks. Fried fish. Pork chops. etc. Better than average onion rings. Good desserts.

Cosy in the dining room. Lots of tables in a small space.

Attentive staff

We were allowed to sit where we wanted and were promptly greeted.
The water we were served smelled strange and so did the restaurant.
The salad was boring and there aren't even baked potatoes on the menu
The steaks are made to order and were fine but not the best. Just alright
