“Meh - there are better places”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013

Business dinner in March, during conference. Place was packed - expected that. Noisy - expected that too. Table not ready - sort of expected that given how busy they were. Prices very high - kinda expected that too. Food was bland - did NOT expect that. I ordered lamb and while it looked like lamb it neither smelled nor tasted like lamb. If I had been blindfolded I would have had no idea what I was eating. Unfortunately a typical US steakhouse experience - over-priced, overly pretentious and lacking in taste in many ways. I know The Palm Steakhouses are supposed to be excellent - maybe the other locations are but this one most certainly is not. I won't go back - even if it is the company's money, it's still a waste!

“My favorite Steak House!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

I see some bad reviews for this place and I just don't understand why? To each his own though. As for me...

I have been to The Palm in San Antonio over 30 times and not once have I had a bad experience with the staff or with the food. Sure, often I have been there after their lunch rush and the staff may have been tired (I understood why) but they were never without a smile and have always provided great service. I would say that those are good stats for any place!

The Palm downtown is my favorite, not only due to the perfect location in the heart of the city and just across from the Majestic Theater (half block down), but also because it is a totally laid back and fun atmosphere. Many of the local "who's who" can be seen on the walls but also dining in and this is how you know a place is good, repeat well-known clientele. Their lunch specials are some of the best in the city for the quality of the food and their happy hour is fun and well-priced. Yes, there are other good steak houses in San Antonio but few offer the unique, LA-style, ambience which The Palm offers.

Even if you are not that hungry, drop in for their daily "soup of the day" or just meet a friend for coffee and some amazing key lime pie; it's the perfect place for good food and great conversation.

“Bring your Appetite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

The Palm is one of those places that you either like or don't like. The menu is heavy (pun intended) with red meat options that are large enough to feed small families. And they know how to grill a steak! On the other hand, many overlook the traditional Italian dishes that were actually the start of the restaurant chain. My dear wife enjoyed her Veal Marsala immensely (along with the half lobster she ordered with it!) Everything was perfectly cooked and served promptly. In San Antonio, The Palm's location--just a block from the Riverwalk and across the street from the Majestic Theater make it a "date" night destination.

Great experience for my first time, especially considering how busy it was. Great service, reasonable price in an upbeat environment.

“You pay a lot for insults and badly cooked food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

The wait staff ignores you, the veggies are almost raw and badly seasoned, the meat is overpriced and only average quality at best, and the lobster is a joke-- much smaller than advertised. On top of this they act as though they are doing you a favor by letting you spend $20 for a drink and $75-100 per person for dinner. If this is your thing, go for it. Some people are actually impressed by snobby waiters, bad service and high prices for mediocre cuisine. Enjoy!
