Description: We are local and independently owned and feature Southern European, mostly Mediterranean food. Chef Sean Fletcher leads the kitchen crew and with Sous Chef Anthony Grabda has established an outstanding menu focused on creativity, balance, quality, and value. Our small and intimate dining room and wine bar is one of the most unique and special places on the River Walk, San Antonio, Texas, the United States, and maybe the World. It's literally like walking up off the River Walk into a small Spanish bistro or Italian grotto with its natural limestone rock walls, candle-lit tables, and its cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Our professional and friendly staff will always treat you with a 'We Are Glad You're Here" attitude. We are proud to be the 2016 San Antonio Express News Critics' Choice for The Best River Walk Dining! Please join us for dinner.

Had the fresh fish - it was excellent. Nice table outside on the Riverwalk. Great service & people. Would highly recommend it.

Everything from the wine recommenation which was white and light and refreshing in the 100 degree weather, to the appetizer-eggplant josephine which was outstanding, the salad, entrees and the dessert, this place was perfect! It's decor is rustic and cozy, and the service second to none!

According to the web, Bella on the River is closed on Sun. and only open for dinner on other nights, so we tried to dine there on Sat. July 26th with friends. We drove from the Dallas area and they drove from the Ft. Worth area. We were staying in rooms at Omni's Mokara Hotel, which is only a few feet away from Bella. We did NOT make reservations, because we didn't know if Austin's traffic would allow us to make a deadline. About 8p, we walked over. The young man standing outside to welcome patrons said he would go inside and ask if there were any openings for us to dine. We waited inside at the bottom of the stairs in the air conditioning since it was 103 degrees outside and we're all in our 70's. Suddenly, a boisterous man about 55 came bounding halfway down the stairs with a big smile on his face, saying, "Are YOU the FOUR people who are HOPING for a reservation to be cancelled so you might dine here tonight?!!!" We took the bait and nodded "Yes" enthusiastically, returning his smile. Then, he laughingly said, "Well, we are sold-out for the ENTIRE night!!!" With that, he turned his back on us and bounded back upstairs. He seemed so HAPPY to turn us away that we did NOT return on Monday when Bella was open again. To Bella's Management: this manager's attitude was so unkind we didn't even try to go back when it was open later. That night, we went to Las Canarias inside Omni's La Mansion del Rio and had a FABULOUS meal and possibly the BEST margarita rocks ever! No love lost on Bella!

Great food and service! Not your typical river walk place...much better. Great selection of food and the music was jazz which was a nice touch instead of what is usually piped into restaurants. Wine choice was also quite good. Can't say much more except I would go back in a heartbeat. Get a reservation!

I was in San Antonio in May for a conference and had my daughter with me. We had given up hope of having a truly decent meal on the River Walk but we decided to try Bella as the reviews were good. It was delicious. It is a small restaurant which adds to the already natural quaint environment that is has. It has a historical yet trendy feel. The owner was there to greet us and so friendly and welcoming and our waiter was wonderful. The food was delicious.....all the way to dessert. My favorite part was their bread and freshly roasted garlic which was brought out hot out of the oven and squeezed out onto a plate of olive oil. I think this may go down as my favorite thing ever and when they offered more I happily had more. I was so happy that we tried Bella On the River. It was the good meal we had been hoping for in a city that was new to us!
