Such a great menu and wonderful atmosphere. One of our favorite places to eat in San Antonio. The only problem I always have is there are so many items on the menu that I have a hard time choosing. Doesn't matter....whatever you order, it's delicious. Can't wait to come back again.

My family has been going to La Fonda's since it opened in the lat 1950's. I have therefore compared every Mexican restaurant I have gone to in the decades since tasting my first cheese enchilada and chalupa compuesta as a child. Nothing is comparable to La Fonda's homemade tortillas and sauce. The nachos with, cheese and jalapeño slices always begins the meal. Fresh corn torillas are supplied in,a steamer that keeps the, hot. Add a little butter and salt, roll the fresh tortillas up like a pencil and enjoy. Dinner for me is always the #2 plate...cheese enchiladas and a chalupa compuesta when I am visiting family. In a city with,a thousand tex-mex restaurants, this is the real deal...and always a great choice. Just. Ask Tommy Lee Jones.

We and our friends were part of La Fonda on Broadway's 55th anniversary celebration Saturday, along with a whole lot of other folks who were there to enjoy the food and menu prices from 55 years ago! The restaurant is located in a strip center on New Braunfels Ave. containing lots of nice shops, which helped us pass the almost 1 hour wait for our table. When our party was called, we were greeted by our tired but friendly server Keith, who kept our table well supplied with Juan's tasty margaritas, chips and salsa. We all ordered the La Fonda #2, a chalupa compuesta served first, followed by a plate with a cheese enchilada, beef taco, tamale con chile, dessert, coffee and tea, on the menu this day for the princely sum of...$1.60!!! The chalupa was topped with very tasty guacamole and alone would make a light lunch. The tamale was covered with a delicious chili con carne, tender flavorful beef chunks in a savory sauce. The crispy beef taco was full of beef. The cheese enchilada was filled with cheese and covered with a nice queso. There were no corners being cut, the meal was top-notch. Hats off to La Fonda and congratulations on 55 years.

This San Antonio institution has been producing some of San Antonio finest TEX-mex since 1958. Since it moved from the Broadway location, it has struggled, but now its back to its former glory. Mr. White and his wife are longtime Alamo Heights residents and they know what the place means to San Antonio. And they are bringing it back. When I spoke to the owner he said that his Mom only went to two resturants in SA, this was one of them, so you know he is going to get it right. This is the good stuff. Fresh tortillas made ALLTHETIME. Great blends of the proper spicing to ensure mild flavors. You know someone who doesn't like mexican cusine, take them here. You will create a convert. Absolutly the best salsa in the city. So good you could eat it with a spoon.Sunny atmosphere with cute ambiance. Not noisey! Yeah, another plus. Full bar with huge selection of premium tequillas.

La Fonda Broadway has been around for over half a century: This is great no frills Mexican food. Order the Lady's Special even if you are a gentleman.
Service sometimes slip but they are always extra nice.
