The margaritas are filled with ice, not filled to the top, and pricey. The salsa chips taste like BBQ lays chips. The green chicken enchilada dish had a doughy tortilla and unappetizing flavor. Never offered dessert. Overall unimpressed and do not recommend to anyone! (although the white chocolate tamales that come with the check were good)

We had lunch here on a Sunday. The Canyon is located in the NE corner of the Quarry Market just off Jones-Maltsberger Road.
They served an amazing assortment of chips with the salsa. All their "chips" are made in house. There was blue corn, and white corn tortilla chips, sweet fried wonton chips, and sweet potato chips. Wow the tastiest chips in town.
Our server was attentive and very friendly.
We had poblano chicken chowder it came with chicken chunks in a creamy sauce with assorted veggies. This was good.
My BW had the chicken quesadillas and salad,
a lunch special for $6.99.
I had the chicken enchilada special with salad for
$6.99. Both specials were delicious.
This is an attractive SW style emporium. We have been guilty of overlooking this restaurant in the past,
that is about to change.

Truly Unique Southwestern Cuisine!

Canyon Cafe was an exciting surprise! Little did we know that we'd discover a delightful blend of Southwestern, Native American, Mexican surroundings and cuisine!

We loved the gorgeous artistic decor; we loved the savory and zestful food! We can hardly wait to return and order other menu selections.

The first thing that hit our table was a spirited salsa and basket of chips. The salsa was slightly sweet, slightly spicy, yet mild. Chips were several different kinds and we had fun trying them all. YUM, what a way to start lunch!

Next came the caesar salad - homemade dressing, just the way it should be, over crisp greens.

Hubby ordered the chicken fried steak with jalenpeno cream gravy, mashed potatoes and perfectly seasoned mixed veggies. He thought it was one of the best he's ever had (and he's tried chicken frieds from one end of the state to the other).

I debated between the two different salmons, porkchop special, and Red Rock Meatloaf. Lisa, our terrific waitress, suggested the meat loaf. Wow, baked, sliced, and grilled meat loaf covered with a roasted tomato BBQ sauce (not like any BBQ sauce I've ever had, anywhere) with chile mashed potatoes and corn. This is one unique meat loaf! There was so much food that I ended up taking half of it home and chowing down on the left overs the next day.

We finished with delightful Key Lime Pie.

Canyon Cafe provides a unique experience from the warm, comfortable surroundings to the very unique cuisine. Definitely a must stop on our next trip through San Antonio!

We were advised to go to this restaurant By someone who once lived there. It is in an outdoor shopping mall so a little unnerving. But the staff was friendly and we started with the table side quacamole. Definitely for more than one person but very good. The chips were not ordinary, combining sweet potato chips, black chips and tortilla chips with spices on there. The first bite of the chips was overwhelming but keep going. It suddenly attacks your taste buds with wonderful ness. The carnitas platter was good, not great. The meat was delicious, the rice okay but the black beans bland. Definitely try the steak quesadilla with blu cheese and another cheese. They had a sweetness to them but oh, so delicious! The chicken fajita was huge and filling. While there may be better places this is a good place to have a meal after arriving from the airport and not having the lay of the land yet, and making sure you have a good meal.

Be sure to try the chicken fried steak with jalapeno creme gravy. The portions are huge, but the flavor is so wonderful that you will try hard to eat the entire thing. Even the grilled veggies were amazing.
