Description: Founded in 1978, we have been fire-roasting our famous salsa and mixing our legendary margaritas for 35 years, serving an average of 450 guests daily—that’s right, 6,000 (or more) happy diners enjoy the restaurant each week. That’s an amazing feat for a San Antonio Mexican restaurant that started as little more than a taco stand in a former neighborhood Dairy Queen. Our staff is dedicated to your fun! The La Fogata team includes staff members who have been on the serving line since 1978. The same cook has been creating the restaurant’s award-winning salsa for 24 years. In an industry known for its high turnover, even the wait staff includes long-time La Fogata veterans, so Dwight is surrounded by a dedicated team who knows the business and shares his passion for the restaurant.

A recent trip to san antonio for a "girls weekend", proved absolutely exceptional. we thank our cabbie "john", who for 2 nights recommeded 2 of the best restaurants ever. At La Fogata, we enjoyed margaritas adorned with an orchid for starters. I chose Un Poco de Todo, as the menu had soooo many choices, i couldn't decide, so i got a little everything. The salsa was incredible, the atmosphere so enjoyable. we spent 4 hours catching up since we only see each other every 2 years or so & come from california to Oklahoma. We're planning a second trip to san antonio since we had such a great trip.

In all the places we have lived, this is the restaurant I consider my favorite. The food is outstanding and the atmosphere is great, mostly all patios. The rajas appetizer with homemade flour tortillas is sublime. Love the margaritas and the salsa. I could go on and on about La Fogata. It is where we head straight from the airport as soon as we arrive in good ole San Antonio.

I love this restaurant. The patio is the best in town. The staff is friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. The drinks are delicioso and the food is out of this world. What makes it the best Mexican restaurant in San Antonio though is the atmosphere. There are grapes growing on the trellis. Hot pink flowers dangling over tables. Waiters making fresh guacamole table side. People from all over town enjoying the food, drinks, and company.

We had dinner here saturday night after being referred here by the concierge at the Hyatt. We had high expectations after having dinner the night before at El Chapparal.

First, the patio was lovely and the fans kept the area cool. The service was great and the food was prepared well.

We ordered the queso with sausage served with tortillas. The presentation was nice as it is served flaming to your table. It was good but not great.

My husband ordered the enchilada combo plate which was a beef, chicken and cheese enchilada. It was good.
My son ordered the combo plate which was quesadilla, nacho, beef taco and enchilada. Again it was good but unfortunately, the food did not compare to the previous night at El Chapparal but the atmosphere here is fantastic as are the tortilla's .

My fiance & I recently did a cross country foodie road trip & found this to be one of the best Mexican spots in the country. Poblano al carbon + margaritas were an excellent combo.
