Description: Founded in 1978, we have been fire-roasting our famous salsa and mixing our legendary margaritas for 35 years, serving an average of 450 guests daily—that’s right, 6,000 (or more) happy diners enjoy the restaurant each week. That’s an amazing feat for a San Antonio Mexican restaurant that started as little more than a taco stand in a former neighborhood Dairy Queen. Our staff is dedicated to your fun! The La Fogata team includes staff members who have been on the serving line since 1978. The same cook has been creating the restaurant’s award-winning salsa for 24 years. In an industry known for its high turnover, even the wait staff includes long-time La Fogata veterans, so Dwight is surrounded by a dedicated team who knows the business and shares his passion for the restaurant.

Went there while at a conference and I can admit it was the small things that to me made this restaurant average. Our waiter was excellent and the service was great and my dinner was wonderful. Where the 'average' came from was my margarita, the stale chips, and the very noxious salsa which wasn't very good.

The place has a very nice atmosphere with its outdoor seating. The service was very good. The food was not the greatest in fact I thought it tasted quite bland and the portions were small. Prices here are very high for Mexican food. I might return for a cool beer or two or three but not sure if I would eat here again.

The food at La Fogata is good Tex-Mex affair, but the standout is the outdoor patio area. The area is shaded by mature trees and there are fountains in a couple of places. At night the brightly colored lighting is very festive and adds to the party atmosphere.
There was a mariachi band wandering the area on the evening we were there. Very festive, but also very loud. This is not the place to go for a quiet, intimate dinner.
We went on a Friday night at about 8 PM, and had a 45 minute wait. We felt it was worth the wait.
