This was just around the corner from the hotel where I was attending a four-day meeting. I had lunch at Schilo's twice and dinner once. The menu is simple and old-school but the quality is very good. I enjoyed excellent service each time I visited. The bread pudding is seriously good - among the best I've ever had.

Had lunch there today. The Reuben sandwich had 4 thin slices of chewy meat. The sauerkraut on the sandwich was outstanding. The special root beer was too sweet. Beer selections were good. Husband had pork shank with lots of meat and he was very happy. Chef came by to see if it was cooked to his taste. Think about sharing if you are an older couple.

I assume this deli is all about lunch, seemed like a wonderful german lunch menu. We did breakfast, and had a potato pancake, interesting but I was disappointed by the lack of morning menu items and the lackadaisical service.

This little German looking delicatessen serves one of the best breakfasts I've had. It's quick, plain, cheap and good. I know it's hard to screw up breakfast, but this is different. The eggs were just as I had ordered, the bacon was perfectly cooked, the biscuits were well baked, and the pancakes were flawless. Even the coffee was good. If you are looking for a morning meal near the River Walk without the high prices you have to pay down there, and within a single block of the river, this is the place.

We had an excellent breakfast there. There are many German items on the menu as you would expect in a German restaurant but there are also very good breakfast meals of ham, eggs, and biscuits which were excellent. It's located on Commerce St in downtown San Antonio so is very convenient to the Alamo and other downtown tourist attractions.
