I enjoy trying new and unique places, and especially family owned restaurants. I read that Schilo's was started by a German family and had a tradition of homemade sausage, corned beef and the like. Had breakfast - eggs and bratwurst - and when I gave my compliments to the waitress on the taste of the sausage, she said it came from somewhere in Wisconsin. Not that I don't love the great state of Wisconsin, but I was under the impression the sausage was made on site. We gave Schilo's a second chance for lunch - split pea soup was supposed to be another 'signature' item on the menu - that was pretty good. The best part of the meal were the biscuits - they were definitely home made. I'd go back for the biscuits with butter and hot coffee - that's about it.

This is locate at the edge of one of the access points to the River walk and very convenient. It is an old building with old furnishings that make it cool. The staff are great and the food is very good.

They have a great breakfast and tasty lunches and a simple menu. It was good that it was a mix of foods and not just German specialties. We went there twice in the visit so we must have enjoyed it.

We happened on this little piece of history when we were looking for a place to have breakfast. It's nothing fancy, but the food is good and you can't beat the history that comes along with the restaurant! We came back for a second visit and had as great a time then! Yum!

Stopped here before touring the Alamo and the food was great. Love German food as we are of German descent. Even tho the place was packed, they made room for the 7 of us at a table and made it work. Service was great too. Got too full to try the desserts tho.
