“Great German food”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Stopped here before touring the Alamo and the food was great. Love German food as we are of German descent. Even tho the place was packed, they made room for the 7 of us at a table and made it work. Service was great too. Got too full to try the desserts tho.

“German Deli”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

German Deli located about a 5 minute walk from the Convention Center. I am not a huge fan of German food but the people in our group who are really liked this place. Several people got the Reuben and liked it. I got the daily special of chicken and dumplings and it was good. Good service and they did separate checks which was nice. They make their own Root Beer which was exceptional! A pitcher is $8 with one refill. The Root Beer was worth the visit.

“Great Breakfast Downtown, Especially On The Weekend”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

We all have our Mexican Food breakfast taco places. However when the weekend rolls around downtown a lot of them are closed. Thankfully, we remembered Schilo's is there for breakfast.
I had their wonderful potato pancakes, eggs and ham served with applesauce. Perfect and a great change from tacos. My wife had regular pancakes with eggs and bacon. Wonderful crispy bacon (I always have to taste her food to make sure it's good!) And of course she had homemade root beer!
It was very busy, but all of the staff worked together as a team to keep things going. The Hostess actually came and took our order when our waitress was too busy with other tables. The manager brought food and filled drinks the entire time we were there.
Great value, too. Less than twenty bucks for two of us, including tip.

“a classic San Antonio must-do”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

We visited the day of the Holiday River Parade and the place was packed. Still we got a table fairly quickly. The waiter accomodated our request to take our sandwiches to go. The reubens are delicious, as is the root beer! The old building adds character and ambiance. Just be prepared for a wait and a fairly noisy atmosphere.

“This deli would not be out of place in New York City”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We have been traveling to San Antonio for years and this was the first time we had ever been to Schilo's...and now all I can think of are the missed lunches there! Over the course of 5 days there, the three of us tried the Rueben, the Patty melt, the Pea Soup, the Submarine sandwich, the "Pappa Fritz", the Ham Shank and numerous sides...all were excellent with the star being the Ham Shank The service was fast and very friendly as well. During lunch the line can stretch out the door from the locals getting their lunch.

If you are in the mood for a good solid, no frills meal just walk through the doors and take a deep breath and smell the food...you will know that you have made the right decision. Next time, schedules permitting we will be able to try some of the dinner specialties and you can believe we will be looking forward to them!
