“a classic San Antonio must-do”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

We visited the day of the Holiday River Parade and the place was packed. Still we got a table fairly quickly. The waiter accomodated our request to take our sandwiches to go. The reubens are delicious, as is the root beer! The old building adds character and ambiance. Just be prepared for a wait and a fairly noisy atmosphere.

“This deli would not be out of place in New York City”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We have been traveling to San Antonio for years and this was the first time we had ever been to Schilo's...and now all I can think of are the missed lunches there! Over the course of 5 days there, the three of us tried the Rueben, the Patty melt, the Pea Soup, the Submarine sandwich, the "Pappa Fritz", the Ham Shank and numerous sides...all were excellent with the star being the Ham Shank The service was fast and very friendly as well. During lunch the line can stretch out the door from the locals getting their lunch.

If you are in the mood for a good solid, no frills meal just walk through the doors and take a deep breath and smell the food...you will know that you have made the right decision. Next time, schedules permitting we will be able to try some of the dinner specialties and you can believe we will be looking forward to them!

“Delicious and great value”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

We ate breakfast here twice. Food was delicious both times. The best bacon I ever laid a lip on. Place was clean and the building is gorgeous. Tall ceilings, old wooden tables and chairs, tile floor and wooden booths. Within walking distance of the River Walk and Convention Center.

“Wienerschnitzel! Delish!”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

If you like German food...eat here! The Wienerschnitzel and potatoes were really yummy. My husband as the Rueban and he loved it. Our server was delightful and very attentive. Oh! and the root beer!!!! The creamiest most flavorful root beer I have ever had. I highly recommend it. We also got dessert to go. The Apple strudel was a large portion that could feed two and it was outstanding! We love Schilo's.
