Description: Located just a few minutes from downtown in architecturally rich Monte Vista, La Fonda on Main is the oldest Mexican food restaurant in San Antonio. La Fonda serves both the best of Tex-Mex cuisine as well as authentic dishes of interior Mexico in a fun and casual setting with beautiful patio dining. Open daily serving lunch and dinner as well as a memorable Sunday brunch menu, we offer a full bar with a wide variety of liquor, beer and wine. Our famous margaritas are made with hand-squeezed limes and your choice of a large selection of tequilas.

We happened upon La Fonda totally by accident while looking for a good "Tex Mex" place, did we hit the jackpot. When we first pulled up we all thought about how expensive it would be just from the appearance of the entry, the inside was even more impressive. Expensive is not how I would describe our experience.
Our party decided outdoor dining was for us and where we were impressed by how well kept and clean the exterior had been earlier, the interior was absolutely beautiful. The deck was amazing, large and comfortable, there were even ceiling fans hanging from the limbs of the large oak tree. The staff was very attentive, cordial, and the service was excellent.
The menu offered a wide and varied selection, the food was outstanding, per person including drinks and desert, ran us about $30.00 per person.
It turns out that La Fonda has been in continuous operational since 1931, and you can tell the entire staff works with pride. If you are ever in the San Antonio area, do yourself a favor and bypass downtown for at least one meal and try La Fonda the experience will be worth it.

We were so impressed with everything about this restaurant - our server, Adrian, was so helpful and courteous. He explained in detail how the dishes were prepared so I could make a decision on the entree. I chose their beef fajitas because Adrian explained that only top quality beef was used - and I must admit they were the best I'd ever had. My husband chose the La Fonda special which consisted if 2 pork filled tamales, 2 beef enchiladas and a beef taco. The manager came to our table to inquire if everything was okay and we couldn't compliment our dining experience enough. An outstanding meal in a beautiful restaurant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant as the perfect place for a romantic dinner or to celebrate a special occasion.

We stayed at a B&B nearby, and the owners recommended La Fonda. It was so good that we went twice. I had the New #7 Chalupa both times. Loved it. The margaritas are very good. Even the basic traditional one is crisp and fresh and delicious. La Fonda is easy to get to from downtown on Bus 90, if you don't have a car. If you are anywhere near North Main and West Woodlawn, I highly recommend it. If the restaurant is busy, it is pretty noisy inside, but the huge outdoor patio area is quieter.

not to mention good margaritas! Been around since 1932. This is not the usual Tex-Mex, more of a New Tex-Mex meal, but very tasty!

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here.....all of the staff were very courteous and friendly. The food was excellent.....big portions for what you pay......we shared a starter which was more than enough for 2 of us. I had the spinach and mushroom enchilada which was excellent. Overall, the food tasted great, but we weren't stuffed like you are after some Mexican meals. We brought our 16 month old and he was well accommodated and nobody really minded, although we did have an early reservation :)
