Description: The Little Rhein Steak House is housed in the Bombach House in historic La Villita. The Coahuiltecan Indians founded a settlement here in the 1500s, and in the early 18th century Spanish soldiers and Canary Islanders established a village on the site. The Mexican General Santa Anna encamped here during the battle of the Alamo. During the 19th century, German immigrants designated this area as the Little Rhein district, hence the name Little Rhein Steak House. In 1847, Otto Bombach, a carpenter, built the first two-story structure here for his family. The Bombach House was thereafter utilized as an early Texas home, a boarding house, a grocery store and bar, a private school, and a hangout for desperados. Old photos, posters, beverage trays and other San Antonio collectibles adorn the limestone walls of the Main Dining Room. Antique accents including brass lights from the Federal Courthouse and wooden benches from the Katy Train Depot help to create a comfortable rustic atmosphere

The first time I went to this place, I assumed I was going to just another tourist trap on the River. How wrong I was. Great food and great service - ALWAYS. Now you might have to wait half the night to get in there, but you're gonna love it - so relax.

My husband and I enjoyed an excellent evening of fine dining at Little Rhein Steakhouse.
Little did we know that the Little Rhein Steakhouse was voted as "one of the top three Steak Houses in Texas". In my opinion that statement is well deserved. We had a table outside closest to the River Walk, the food and service was excellent and the atmosphere was exceptional. It is a little pricey but was well worth the pleasurable evening!

So disappointed! Lived in San Antonio in the 60s when this restaurant opened, went to Hemisfair, saw the Hilton built... and was so excited to bring my husband to my home town. Well... it started when the hostess wanted to seat us on the "porch" and we asked for outdoor seating. First punishment... seated in teeny tiny itty bitty corner perched on edge. Waited waited waited. Finally asked for menu. Asked for bread. Asked for wine. Waited waited waited... Finally got to order. Husband's steak cooked wrong, very fatty ribeye, poor quality. I had the petit filet, again, poor quality meat cooked wrong. On one of the three occasions we say the waitress, we mentioned, however it was not that she was interested. Manager did stop by, briefly. Overall, overpriced, if you want to eat on the river, go elsewhere... would have been happy to pay the price, if the experience and food was worth it. This place has gone way down in quality!

Environnent was great; next to the Riverwalk and Vilita. The apetizer were greasy and oversold by the waiter. The steak was not properly cooked; more like boiled?

Be prepared to open your wallet. This isn't a Sizzlers. The steaks were excellent and the service was good even though they were understaffed.
