I had the rainbow trout, white wine, and we shared the Dark Chocolate Fondant dessert. Calories galore, delicious as can be. This is not an inexpensive restaurant so be prepared for a triple digit bill for two, if you order wine and dessert. We ate outside and had a great view of the River Walk.

This place looked interesting and close to our hotel.

Great table looking down on Riverwalk.

Lovely food, well-presented. Service was "good American" - a bit OTT for us, but attentive and informative.

At the expensive end of the spectrum, but we'd Whataburger-ed the previous night. Swings and Fig Trees.

We were looking forward to a very special 9 pm New Year's Eve seating at Fig Tree, for which we prepaid $125 per person, service included. The five-course meal was indeed delicious food. Each plate was cooked perfectly, the correct temperature, just-right portions, and beautifully presented. We were among the first to arrive for the evening's second seating and initially the service was great. We were given excellent wine advice and purchased a $90 bottle, which was as good as described.

When it was time for food to start arriving, however, the service fell apart pretty quickly, and before long it was apparent that either the kitchen was not able to time food for so many tables at one time, or the wait staff was overwhelmed, or both. We waited very, very long intervals between courses, and twice a server brought us food that was not meant for our table--first a course we'd already eaten (a half hour earlier) and the second time, after another long wait, a premature entree, because we'd not yet been served the prior course. Those plates were whisked away each time, and then the wait for the correct next plate began anew.

We found ourselves having to enforce sips-only of the delicious wine, because we had nothing to keep the palates interested except the wine for such long stretches, we realized that the bottle would be long gone before the entree arrived if we did not put it aside during the plate waits. Asking for bread triggered another long wait, as we were told it was still in the oven.

We were not the only diners with this complaint. A table of four next to us was talking about the same frustrating experience. Clearly the restaurant was not equipped for the number of tables it presold, which was such a shame, because the food lived up to the evening's promise. The restaurant's over-sold slip was showing elsewhere, too, as the ladies' room ran out of towels and guests resorted to using kleenex to dry hands. That area was a mess, testimony to an understaffed restaurant.

A restaurant that sells more than it can deliver has few excuses for poor service--it should know what's needed for service and staff accordingly. Collecting the service charge in a prepaid meal removes the diners' ability to adjust accordingly, but based on reviews here and elsewhere, we did not imagine that this would be a problem so did not hesitate to prepay for the meal. We spent a good portion of our meal time feeling annoyed, having waited about 30 minutes between two of the courses, and nearly that for another one. I would not recommend this restaurant. Despite the quality of the food, the proprietors knowingly sold what they could not deliver.

I had a terrific crab cake followed by perfectly prepared scallops. It was a very nice meal. The staff was very friendly and efficient. I can really recommend this restaurant to anyone, no hesitation!
