Description: Whether dining in the cozy interior or on the outdoor villa-style terrace overlooking the San Antonio River, exquisite food and impeccable service are mainstays of the Fig Tree Restaurant. Crisp linens drape tables set with fine china and sparkling crystal in elegant yet homey surroundings.Delicate, highly composed dishes such as Tournedos Rossini with Perigourdine Sauce, Seared Nori Tempura Yellow Fin Tuna and Cold Water Australian Lobster with Drawn Butter are menu stand-outs. Tableside flamed desserts include Bananas Foster over Vanilla Ice Cream and traditional Baked Alaska.Historically referred to as the Gray-Guilbeau House, the building is named for James Gray and French consul Francois Guilbeau who bought the house from Gray in 1853. The house saw many owners, including the Henshaw family, and was the last of the private dwellings in La Villita. The Phelps family purchased the home in December of 1970 as their personal residence. Visitors to the home were enthralled with its historical significance and ambiance. Prompted by this the family voted to share the house with all, and the Fig Tree Restaurant was born.Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phelps opened the Fig Tree Restaurant on March 17, 1971, and the family has continuously operated the restaurant ever since. We sincerely hope you enjoy this old home and its surroundings as much as those who have lived and dined here in the past.Around the corner from the Hilton Hotel, next to Little Rhein Steak House

“Anniversary Dinner”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Having never been to San Antonio I had no idea were to take my wife for our anniversary dinner. I did a google search and was very lucky to have found this place. I called and made a reservation and asked if we could sit outside.

We arrived early because I didn't know how long it was going to take for me to find the place. We were greeted and taken outside to the patio. The view was great! Our waiter was great! The food was amazing!

“Refined Business Entertaining”

Pretty much perfect: fine food, fab American, French, World wine list. Often Brits find USA "Fine Dining" service to be intrusive, but not here. Expensive, but o thoroughly professional production. Thank you, Fig Tree.

“A Lovely Place to Dine on the River Walk!”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

We had a very good experience at this charming restaurant in a historic house right on the River Walk. You can arrive by one of the river taxis, walk along the river or come by car. If the weather is fine, eat on the multi-level terrace with ferry lights and a romantic view. Inside the decor is charming, also - small rooms upstairs and down. I had tornadoes of beef with a marvelous Madeira wine sauce perfectly prepared and delicious. The wine list was amazing. Our service was exceptional. If you are looking for fine dinning in a beautiful setting this is the place.

“Fine Dining on the Riverwalk”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Somewhere between a tripadvisor rating of 4 & 5, the Fig Tree Restaurant definitely offers fine dining on the San Antonio riverwalk. We hosted a business dinner in the upstairs Crystal room. With a fantastic bay window overlooking the riverwalk, the room was very nice. The only flaw of the physical space was that it is joined to the smaller second private room with a curtain. Not being truly private, there was a bit of noise carry over from the group dining next door.

As for the food, we were first presented with a parmesan cheese puff. An appetizer tray with shrimp cocktail, goat cheese stuffed mushrooms, salmon mousse on a crostini and escargot on puff pastry was presented. The salmon mousse and shrimp cocktail were both quite good. The escargot was average and the mushroom was a bit rubbery. None of them were bad, but nothing was fantastic. However, the asparagus soup presented next was fantastic! Strong in flavor, the soup had a fantastic flavor. The standard salad and sorbet palet cleanser followed. As for the entree, I opted for the smaller of the two filets, paired with two large sauteed shrimp and mashed potatoes with asparagus. The steak was perfectly done and nicely sized given the amount of food we had already have. I finished with the creme brulee, which was one of the better I have had recently. You could see and taste the vanilla bean.

Overall, the Fig Tree was quite good and I would recommend if you are looking for a comfortable fine dining location on the riverwalk.

“Good Service a bit Pricey”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Nice restauraunt with a very pleasant atmosphere, we had to eatvinside as there was quite a wind the evening we went. I reckon the dining experience would be enhanced by eating outside as their terrace overlooks the river. The servers were very attentive and the food above average, worth a visit for special occasion.
