Liberty Bar is a unique experience, where simplicity triumphs over all. The ambiance is like being at home - a very nice home - with a nice bar, and simple, durable furniture. It's location in the trendy King William/Blue Star area is a plus, allowing for some bar-hopping activity before or after a meal here.
They have a well-stocked bar and a variety of specials. I tried a glass of Lobo Negro beer (on draft) and am now desperately trying to find it in a store where I live. Really good beer!
And, despite "Bar" in the name, this place is really about the food. Southern-style, home-cooking is how I would describe it. I had the wild boar sausage and it rocked! It was a large, grilled link with a perfect balance of flavors from the spices and meat. It didn't have a hint of gaminess. Another person in our party had the pot roast. He said it was delicious. My wife had the fettuccine with tomato, red onion, and crisp salt pork and it, too, was delicious.
We wife and I also split a slice of the pecan pie and it was out-of-this-world good. The pecans tasted fresh off the tree. It was among the best (if not THE best...) pecan pie I've ever had.
The quality of the food and the look of the place would make you think that it is expensive, but it is not expensive at all. Liberty Bar is a great value and worth a visit when Tex-Mex and tacos start wearing you down. Highly recommended!
