Love to go there for breakfast or lunch when its close to Christmas and Easter. The house is beautifully decorated and the food is very fresh. Love the rolls they provide and salads are fresh. I would also recommend the soup of the day. Its made with all fresh ingredients. The only thing I would pass on is the coffee. It's Folgers at best.

The restaurant is associated with the flour mill beside it, in its history. It is a beautiful historic property located towards the end of the Riverwalk. It only serves breakfast and lunch. As such it is very popular & you will likely have to wait for a table. It isn't an extensive menu, the breakfast platter & the waffles with strawberries take top billing. The bread basket with the small blue berry muffins & rolls are excellent. This a great place to start the day in downtown San Antonio. The prices are very reasonable which makes this restaurant a must.

I first visited The Guenther House in 2009 and knew if I ever returned to San Antonio that I would visit again, and I wasn't disappointed. My wife and I arrived around 8:45am for breakfast one cool morning in March. We chose to be trendsetters by sitting outside underneath the patio pergola with the electric heaters hanging above to knock the chill out of the air. All the patio chairs had afghans for customers to wrap themselves in or lay over their legs until the sun peaked above the treetops. The breakfast menu is limited but you don't need a lot of options. There are only two items you really need to know about: Waffles and Biscuits w/ gravy. The waffles are sweet and crisp - add strawberries for an unforgettable experience. The biscuits are thick and heavy, and with flavorful sausage gravy it will satisfy even the heartiest of appetites. The house blend coffee was surprisingly flavorful - a must try.

If staying downtown, I would recommend taking a cab to breakfast but then suggest walking the beautiful 1.5 miles back along the Riverwalk - access is directly across the street from the Guenther House.

My wife and daughter walked up on Friday around 10:30 and there was an hour and a half wait. So we thought we must be at the right place with a wait like that. The scenery was beautiful. Coffee very weak. The pastries were phenomenal! Truly worth a trip just to get some to go, but with someone's else's coffee. My wife had the chicken enchiladas which were very bland and lacked a chefs hand. I probably should have ordered a waffle, but since we ate a pastry during the long wait I figured I'd go with the taco salad. Again, very bland and unimaginative. The food was fresh, but that was it. Prices are reasonable but it's not worth waiting 30 minutes for breakfast or lunch much less an hour and a half. Only disappointing meal we has while in San Antonio for the week.

Breakfast at the Guenther House is an experience you do not want to miss on a visit to San Antonio. Popular with locals for the extensive breakfast menu, the location is adjacent to Pioneer Mill where White Wings flour is produced. In the Spring and Fall the outdoor seating offers a view over the San Antonio River as well as the beautifully manicured grounds. Waffles with fresh fruit and whipped crème, great egg dishes, and of course the famous Pioneer White Gravy over flaky biscuits means you won't leave hungry. Great coffee and pastries too.
