Chris Madrid's offers that truly rare experience of going to a "local dive" and finding tons of excellent menu items with great portions and prices. Believe the hype. The fare at this joint is truly top notch in every respect (except health-wise). The cheddar burger was amazing, and the fries are delicious. I can put food away, and I left really full. By all means, if you are in San Antonio and are looking for a really fun local place to go to, you MUST add a visit to Chris Madrid's to your to-do list!

We were looking for a good burger and more spot while in San Antonio, without going to the Riverwalk or other popular attractions.
We like to go off the beaten path whenever we travel. Rent the car and drive all over the area to get a feel of what it is like to live in a given location.
Sometimes the best places to go, quality and price wise are out in the neighborhoods.
That is what we found with Chris Madrids. Looks like an old converted gas station from the outside and inside it is a fun atmosphere. Huge inside, clean, full of locals who probably frequent the place a few times a week.
We did burgers. Huge portions, anything you want on them. Great flavor and the fresh cut fries were great too.
Service was fast too, given we hit around dinnertime and the place was busy. They give you the vibrating thing that lights up when the order is ready, so you can pick out a table and get your napkins, condiments etc. while you wait, but we did not wait long... seemed like about 5 mins. after we placed the order it was ready.
Refills on soft drinks were free. Beer and cocktails were available.
Prices were low compared to what you would have paid on the Riverwalk for the same fare.
Not hard to find, but the freeways were a little confusing for a first time to San Antonio, so the GPS got us there and back with no problem.
We will go back when in San Antonio next time.

I didn't believe the pictures or the tall tales... here's a tip: believe them! Oh my, the cheeses!! Great flat top burger and loads of cheese... what appeared to be hand cut fries... great cheat meal (warning, do not come here and attempt to count calories). The nachos/tostados also looked delish. I noticed the pro in the group ate his burger quickly, good idea, don't let that cheese cool off! In QUESO emergency, come here!

This is a must visit! I went for the first time on Friday night, was heaving with people, had a great atmosphere and really friendly staff. The queue appeared to be long, but moved down in no time.
I had the cheddar cheese burger (kept it regular as the portions are very generous) and oh my! It was yumtastic! This is a must visit for San Antonio, can’t wait to get back to go again!

There is a reason Chris Madrid's has been around forever; big, greasy, delicious burgers. Don't be scared of the long line and sometimes it is loooong! The burgers are worth the wait, and that line moves surprisingly fast.

Make sure you try the Tostada Burger (my favorite) or the Cheddar Cheezy. If you opted for the tostada burger, stop at the salsa bar for a little pico de gallo to top it and be ready to enjoy an amazing combination.
