“Tacos and Donuts!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

My wife and I love The Original Donut Shop. Not everywhere can offer you amazing donuts AND amazing tacos at the same time. This place does just that. The breakfast tacos might be my favorite in San Antonio and the chocolate covered glazed donut is my favorite. Everyone we have ever taken here has loved it and wants to go back.

Just remember this place is cash only.

“Super Donuts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2013

I love great donuts - you know the ones that bring your childhood memories back, the ones with that special glaze or filling that makes you want to have another and another, and, in my case, the ones that don't have so much yeast that you find youself belching after just one. Well, The Original Donut Shop combines all those pluses into their product. Truth said I can't eat just one. Yummy.

“Great Donuts and Tacos!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013

My dad used to bring us hot glazed donuts from this place when we were young, back in the 1950s and 1960s. It is amazing that it is still owned by the original family, and their daughter Milly Clark is now at the helm. It is unbelievable that they have been consistently serving up scrumptious donuts since 1954; that's almost 60 years of great quality! If you get there early, the donuts are fresh and hot. My favorite is still the glazed, but I love the chocolate glazed too. They now serve hot mexican food. They make their delectable flour tortillas right in front of you; it's like they're tempting you - they know what they're doing. My favorite tacos are the bacon and egg, bean and cheese and chorizo and egg; heck, I love them all. Oh you have to try their carne guisada with cheddar cheese - WOW!! One of the things that they can improve on, is their coffee; it's good, but in my opinion, it could be better.
There are no servers; you order at the cash register. Many of the ladies have been working there for many, many years; they are lots of fun, and they are "characters"! If you've never been there, be sure to give them a try. You won't be disappointed in this historic San Antonio staple!
Hours: Mon-Fri 6 am - 8 pm; Sat-Sun 7 am - 8 pm. They do NOT accept credit cards. They have a private parking lot. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible.
