In a tiny mall on the river walk, you'll find Rio Gelato. We actually sought this out due to the tripadvisor reviews and for once we were disappointed.
Only a small selection of flavours and the texture of the ice cream was very odd, it crumbled when you tried to scoop it up with a spoon. Very strange.
Service was friendly and prices were OK but I wouldn't go back. I just didn't think it was 'proper' gelato.

We can in here by chance after buying boat tour tickets, it's a small very attractive Gelateria. All home made ice cream and home made cones, how great is that. The owner was really very friendly and we passed some time with him. They are generations of gelato makers from Pisa originally.

I visited this spot while being shown around the river walk on vacation. It is hidden away off the main thoroughfare of the River Walk, but is a must stop.

We tried several of the flavors in our small group, tres leches, cookies and cream, strawberry and biscotti. All were wonderful and the owner seems like a nice man. He was very patient with our group of young children and gracious for our business.

We chose to take our gelato out to eat in the sun while watching the river tours go by/people watching. Stop in here!

This quaint little gelato shop and its charming owner, Alfredo, was the highlight of our trip! Alfredo knocked our socks off with his genial conversation as he brewed up real Segafredo cappuccinos for us with a side of homemade biscotti. While we sipped and munched, our fresh pizza was rising and baking. Alfredo brought out a true masterpiece topped with only the freshest of ingredients - he grows his own tomatoes and basil and has a top secret family recipe for the crust. Along with a luscious blend of cheeses and a drizzle of fine olive oil, it was a thrill for the palate. Somehow we managed to find room for gelato still! My husband had the Strawberry Basil (again, Alfredo grows his own berries and keeps bees for honey) & Pistachio. I had the Peppermint and Spanish Chocolate. Both combos were nothing short of extraordinary. So much so, that we went back again later that same evening and were lucky enough to enjoy Oreo gelato that had been freshly made within the hour. Alfredo treated us like family and truly rolled out the red carpet to give us a taste of the homeland and an experience that we'll never forget. His stories and folklore only served to make each bite better. It made us long to return to Italy again! Rio de Gelato is somewhat hard to find and, amazingly, none of the shopkeepers just a few feet away could tell us where it was. But it was SO WORTH the effort! If you can find The Iron Cactus, the Aztec Theatre, and a riverboat loading dock then you have found it. Whatever you do, don't miss a chance to try this delightful little family run business. THANK YOU, Alfredo! Bravo! Bravo!

LOVE this little pizza/gelato place! We happened upon it hidden away in the arcade where they sell the riverboat tickets. I rated excellent because of the gelato, but the pizza was great, too.
A tiny little place, with a few small tables out in front. The wonderful pizza's are hand made, including the crust dough. No mixes used.
Their gelato is real Italian, hand made by the owner family from Italy. They have about 200 unique varieties of gelato and rotate the flavors in their case. You can get sample tastes of as many flavors as you wish. (Try the strawberry/basil one!!!)
Can't wait to get back to this place!
