This hidden gem is quite possibly my favorite place in San Antonio. The gelato is authentic and the owner is the most pleasant gentleman you'll ever meet. He gave me tastes of several different flavors and a brief description of how he makes them. Highly recommended!!

This place is easy to overlook, with all the tourist restaurants around it. If you miss it, you miss a true San Antonio treasure. Alfredo owns it, runs it, and will educate you on the mysteries that are gelato and pizza. We had his gelato three times in one day. The peaches are from his tree. The wild strawberries grow around his home. The crushed biscotti in the Amaretto gelato are baked by his wife. Oh, and the pizza... The dough is made from scratch. He makes the cheese, grows the basil, and the toppings are not chopped until you order. We travel widely. This is the best gelato, best pizza we have ever had. All from one man, behind a small counter. There are not near enough stars to do this place justice.

We had gelato there and he had all sorts of good flavors. He makes it all inhouse. The peaches are off his own tree. It was a very fun place to stop by on the riverwalk.

Rio De Gelato is fantastic, much more than just Gelato, this place has excellent pizza as well. Everything is made from scratch, and the place is well decorated too. The Gelato is the best I have ever tasted! The mint in the gelato is REAL, I know because my mom would grow mint at home for cooking and I remember that smell. If you want an authentic locally owned establishment to try, this is the place!!!

We visited Rio de Gelato several times while in San Antonio for 6 days this month. First, everything is fresh and homemade. Quality ingredients and excellent recipes. You really taste the difference. The gelato is superb as is the cannoli. My husband's favorite flavors of gelato were the milk & honey and the coffee. My faves were the coffee flavor and the stracciatella. The cannoli is perfect...not too sweet. The pizza crust is light and crispy. Very nice toppings. We had proscuitto & jalapenos. The coffee is imported from Italy and outstanding. The owners were charming and informative. Thanks Alfredo & family!
