They were busing the senior citizens in for this. People were bickering over the fact that they couldn’t see anything with people standing in front of them. When the show started I was surprised that it was just music and lights flowing over the front of the church. No words or explanation as to what I was seeing. I understand it covers the history of the area, but it was just pictures with no context. Honestly we left after 10 minutes because we found it boring. All of the old people were videotaping the whole thing with their phones. It’s on YouTube if you want to see it, no need to videotape it from behind hundreds of heads.

Main Plaza is a nice plaza (open space in the area near government buildings and run down area currently under revitalized. However, at night (at the time I visited San Antonio), it is the place to be to see light show of the Cathedral and the Courthouse. They time, is a good place to sit and taking a break from walking around. It is not far from the Market Square.

Beautiful laser light show with music. Only few chairs scattered on plaza. Must sit on ground or stand. 25 minute show. We were right near front. Detail was awesome. Only drawback would be if people in front obstructed some of the lower viewing area. Will make it a point to go back next time in San Antonio. Check schedule. Doesn't play every night.

The large public square between the river and the Cathedral is the Main Plaza. It was the historical center of civilian life in colonial San Antonio. While it is historic, it is also home to one of the most modern shows on the Cathedral exterior. The show is free and happens on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights at 9:00, 9:30, and 10:00. For my wife and me, the show on the Cathedral was the best night activity we did in San Antonio. I highly recommend the show.
