Beautiful building and furnishings. Excellent mattresses. Very convenient location - attractions and good restaurants walking distance or via convenient transportation. The innkeeper, John, is truly hospitable, and doubles as chef for excellent breakfasts. We had four mornings of gourmet treats. Housekeepers Rosemary and Pricilla keep the house and antique furnishings spotless.

Room Tip: Each one has its own charm - we were in Bluebonnet -

John was an amazing host, he has lots of tips where to go for lunch or dinner, knows the area and even has tip for a seldom rainy day in San Antonio.

The rooms are clean and spacious, the beds are super comfy, the breakfast was delicious and I loved the swing on the front porch.

What I probably liked most was the breakfast, as it was served on a community table so that all guest could have a nice chat (if they wanted) and exchange some ideas what to do in San Antonio and surroundings.

We are looking forward to come back some time.

Room Tip: Bluebonnet is probably my favorite, Lily is on the ground floor (still a couple of steps at the entr...

Excellent location to the San Antonio riverwalk and local restaurants.

Breakfast were always good.
Most rooms do not have a bath tub only with a hand shower.

We stayed in the Magnolia room and I think I chose it because it had a balcony, which was lovely to sit on with a drink in the warm sunshine. It overlooked the main street and a restaurant but noise was not an issue. However that cannot be said for the a/c unit which was very noisy. We had 3 nights here and used the ceiling fan in preference to the a/c to actually sleep.
The location was perfect as we like to walk and the River Walk is literally at the end of the street 5 minutes away and to walk to the heart of San Antonio is about 30 minutes most of which is a flat path by the river. There is a trolley stop at the corner of the street but we walked everywhere as there were good restaurants closeby. The host John was very helpful and his recommendations worked for us. His breakfasts were yummy and we came away with the recipe for ginger pancakes and lemon sauce!
They have a policy of no smoking, candles, pets or kids under 12 which were all pluses for me! However they do have a dog but he wasn't a problem.
While our room was perfectly adequate it was quite small and the shower room was compact! The wardrobe only had 4 hangers and there was little drawer space. However I think the other rooms were bigger and I know some had baths.
There was internet access and a fridge stocked with complimentary soda, water & even beer! Thankfully I don't think that facility was abused.
It was nice that they were security conscious asking us to lock the front door on exit with a combination to re-enter.
I had considered staying right on the River Walk but am glad we didn't as the King William historic area was lovely to wander around and quieter.

Room Tip: Request the Bluebonnet Room

Very Nice!! Our room, Lily was so pretty and a decent size. The owners were so nice as was the breakfast. There was a mini fridge in the room was a nice surprise! The porch was a nice place to sit and relax. My brothers room, the Lavender room, was on the 2nd floor and had a balcony. We sat out there one evening and really enjoyed it. We stayed during the King William Fair, and we could not have asked for a better location! I highly recommend the Gardenia Inn.

This place was absolutely charming! The Erlichs were very low-key, making their attention to detail seem effortless. Delicious breakfasts. My husband's not a sweet-eater at breakfast and he appreciated the efforts to provide us with a more savory offering each morning. They very friendly and offered many helpful suggestions for places to visit/shop/eat. A lovely two-block stroll from the river, easy access from there directly to the Riverwalk and downtown, Alamo, etc. The inn is located in the historic King Charles neighborhood and lots of great bars and restaurants. Felt very safe to walk around at night. Incredibly clean, well furnished, comfortable, and amazingly charming. Nice little business area on second floor landing with computer/printer etc.
Stayed in the Magnolia Room on first floor. While convenient, there is a bit of noise from other guests using the stairs, especially in the morning. Not a problem, just info for those who may want a quieter location in the inn. And, yes, the bathroom is teeny tiny! Love the Rusk toiletries, especially their hand lotion! LOL. Lovely furnishings and tasteful high-end linens/bedding.
Overall, excellent stay in an elegant old inn. Thanks!

This place was so wonderful and prices are very reasonable. The accommodations are GREAT and such nice people. There are restaurants right by the place and it is within walking distance of the downtown area and river walk. It is also right along the trolley line which you can buy at $1.10 or $4.00 for a day pass. There is also a second balcony you can sit out on - depending on your room or access to it at the time as two of the rooms go out on it and we sat on it during the day and night and just watched the neighborhood which was relaxing and great. It was FANTASTIC. There is a train station or something near by that we hear and there is a neighborhood hang out around the corner that you might hear depending on the room you stay in. I definitely want to return to this spot!!
