I ran a small (16 people) business meeting here in February. Costs and location within walking distance to the Market area were factors, but having the hotel under renovation - especially in the lobby area during business hours - was a bit challenging for our meeting participants. Luckily they had a good sense of humor when their discussions were occasionally disrupted by the banging of hammers or the whirs of saws. Noise was also an issue with the adjoining meeting room - hopefully the renovations will help with that.
Rooms were updated and lovely but I was sad that the pool was off limits for the time being. The front desk staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. Dining/banquet staff were too few and needed some hints to make sure they covered all the bases. The small restaurant had some excellent meal choices, including a vegetarian option of an enormous bamboo steamer basket loaded with jasmine rice and fresh steamed veggies - yum! However, waitstaff often seemed to be overwhelmed, even at lunch when our group pre-ordered from a limited menu.
Great location for business folks or tourists - easy to hop on the city trolley for a dollar to get to the Riverwalk, and easy to walk to the wonderful Market Square area, with loads of dining and shopping opportunities.More
