“Nice hotel for the money”
Reviewed August 5, 2010

We arrived at the hotel exhausted. The clerk was sensitive to our tiredness and she went to get the tag# off of the car. Ashley was superb. The hotel is just about 5 blocks from the river walk. My 12 yr old daughter and I NEVER felt unsafe. The front desk staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. The beds are comfortable and the parking is free. They do have a hot breakfast available around $4.00 it was just ok. There are train tracks but we never heard the train. We will definitley will stay their again.

We stayed at the hotel thinking it was within walking distace of the riverwalk. You can walk if you don't mind walking over 10 or 12 blocks. It was 5 or so blocks to the Alomodome which was ok. I had booked a special rate for other things, and when we got there they informed me that I must have booked another special and wanted to charge me for everything. They would not make good so don't book with them. The room was clean is all I can say. It was a very scary area to be walking in so I would not stay there again. We left after one night.

Suite - 2 rooms w/ kitchenette (coffe maker, microwave & mini-fridge). Small store on premises. No grocery stores nearby. Free parking. WiFi. Guest laundrey. Perfect for families. Decent Hot breakfast for $3.45 per person -- well worth it. Denny's a block away. Lots of restaurants along the Riverwalk -- 2 blocks away. Gonzoles Convention Center and Alamodome 3 blocks. Airport 8 miles away. (taxi $25); Sunset Amtrak Station - 3 blocks. Downside - room painted olive drab and very small toiletries only provided first day, but decent quality. I suspect this is a trend in all hotels. No pool.

Suggest 2 day hop on/off trolley($26 for one or two days) Starts in Alamo Square (location of Alamo) proceeds to Mission San Jose and Mission Conception, German District, Museum of Texas Culture and big pillar w/ revolving restaurant on top, Mercato (Mexican Market w/ Los Margaretas - great Mexican Restaurant & 24/7 Tex Mex bakery and restaurant - famous all over Texas) Lots of shops. Feel free to barter. Free Mexican music and dancing entertainment. Ends in Alamo Square. Covers highlights of San Antonio in 2 days. Commentary brief, but informative.

Riverwalk - great shopping from boutiques to Macy's. Touristy boat ride ($8). We skipped it in favor of sitting by the water and listening to a Mariachi band while sipping ice cold Margaritas.

We stayed here for a week, and what a pleasent surprise for a down town hotel. It was spotlessly clean. 5 mins walk to the convention center and stadium. The downtown bus stops outside, and it was a small intimate place. The staff were fantstic. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The free parking was just great, because most places charge up to $18 a night. And lots of it. The breakfast was hot, lots to chose from and a lovly lady was there to help, clear up and restock. No running out here. It was only $4 . Great. The property is in part, an old converted warehouse, very nicely done, but the bedrooms are in the new block. A small hotel, and this is refected in its service. Any problems were dealt with on a no quibble basis. Would definately stay again. A credit to the best western chain,........

Stayed one night- rooms good and different decor throughout.
However the breakfast spoiled it all.. First they charge $3-25 what they say is nominal. Most places providing a cheap usually basic breakfast give it free.Second , the glasses for fruit juice were absolutely filthy and it was virtually every glass. When challenged the manager blamed a dishwasher on the blink yet others staying there indicated it had happened before.Waken up -this is the 21st century!! Third the selection was poor and ran out.
More disconcerting was the air con unit in the room which prevented sleep until exhaustion intervened. It roared off and on like a lorry changing down gears. When challenged the manager wanted to know why at 3 in the morning we hadn't complained! Really and what would have happened?? However a complimentary gesture might have shown some concern but then so what we were only guests.

We stay only at this hotel when we are traveling to San Antonio. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful to us. Rooms have always been clean. This is always the first place I think of when we are coming to San Antonio. It is not the place to stay if you are going to Sea World. Somewhat of a far drive. We did go to Sea World but were also going to the Riverwalk ( IMAX ) and to the Market Place. Trolley stop is right outside of hotel. Great place. Been there three times in the last year.

We stayed there with my 2 small children and elderly parents. I thought the staff was friendly and the rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable. There is a small charge for breakfast but worth the price. They have a large selection of American and Mexican food including eggs, sausage, pancakes, tortillas, papas con huevo, beans. Everything was delicious. The building is beautiful & historical and the lobby has hard wood floors, brick walls, and gorgeous stained glass doors. So charming. Close to amtrak station. We are staying there again this summer. Highly recommend especially if you are a history buff.
