“Good food and great beer”

Watched the game, enjoyed the food, loved the Fat Pig beer, took in the ambiance. Reasonable price. It would be a great place to sit outside if the weather was cooperative.

“top notch brewpub”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

The pear/chicken salad I had was outstanding. They were out of chicken and they gave me a discount on the salad. The menu was very unique, but a bit small on options. Not much for kids. The beers were good, but like most Texas beers, they weren't very bold. i.e. they were true to their nature but a bit mild (the ipa was light on hops, the stout was more like a brown to me). The employees were friendly and the room was classic yet unique and interesting. Prices were very good.

“Organic & locally sourced”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

We had Sunday brunch at Blue Star because they had 1 1/2 hour wait at Gunther House across the street. Great plan as everything was organic and locally sourced. A new sous chef accounted for a long wait after ordering but it was worth it for a change. We had parked downtown and took the Riverwalk southern extension through King Williams which ends with stair going up to Blue Star. Turned out to be a good idea to walk off brunch along the scenic part of the Riverwalk away from the tourist bar loop.

“Not much food at a big price”
Reviewed November 8, 2012 via mobile

We met our son and his girlfriend for lunch on Sunday at Blue Star Brewing. The four of us went to the BSB for Sunday lunch before heading home (a six hour drive), only to find out the menu was severely limited for Sunday brunch. Never the less two of the group ordered Eggs Benedict and two of us ordered shrimp with grits. In addition we had two teas and two drafts...the verdict, the eggs Benedict were fine, served as a pair with creamy Hollanaise and local farm eggs. The shrimp and grits were a whole other story, a scant palm sized serving of grits, well seasoned - but skimpy, and two(2) medium sized shrimp served with their heads intact and criss-crossed to hide the fact that there were only two(2) shrimp on the plate. During the meal the waiter went overboard telling us how great the bread pudding was...so, we tried to salvage the experience by ordering this for dessert, only to be informed they don't do dessert on Sunday, go figure! We left after paying the $60 bill, said goodbye to our son who lives at Blue Star and promptly went to get something to eat.

“Great food abrewing!”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

The recent chef change has completely transformed this once-subpar microbrewhouse into a top-flight cafe with great beer and ale. Poutine with veal reduction gravy? Oh, yes please. Coarse grits with tender shrimp? Mmm. I could list everything on the menu and still not have enough words to describe how wonderful it all is. Word is the chef and his crew handle all the butchering and make all the sausages and charcuterie, bake all the breads, and so on. It shows in every bite. Amazing. Don't miss it. The lavendar biscuits and pork sausage cream gravy is the ONLY way to start a Sunday. And prices are low, low -- especially for a place that sources everything locally. I wish I lived next door.
