Stayed at the Fairfield this past weekend. Check in was a breeze. Room was sparkling and ready. Breakfast gets a little nuts but there is plenty to choose from. So close to the Riverwalk. Price can't be beat, even with the valet charge. All of the hotel staff, from the front desk to the maid service were very friendly and helpful. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the front if you have a problem with noise.

Our family stayed on a Wednesday and Thursday night in April 2012. We were in town for an educational academic competition for our teen.

The worst part of the stay was that the hotel is steps from a famous gay bar (which a local explained to me is packed every night of the week and is a destination for tourists and locals alike) --- called Bonham Exchange. This advertises as having special events every night of the week. While other typical bars and restaurants with bars that we walked or drove past were dead on these nights, Bonham Exchange was hopping.

Unfortunately for us, that meant that all night drunk people walked down the street yelling and talking loudly as they walked to their hotel rooms elsewhere. My room faced the Residence Inn across the street and the two tall hotels acted like an echo chamber, amplifying the sounds. Even with the air conditioning on full blast it was not enough to hide the noise and we were woken up many times each night.

The worst was from midnight to about 12:40am there were a handful of drunks standing in front of the Residence Inn shouting and laughing. We could not sleep with the racket. Oddly a security officer was stationed right there and stood by letting it all go on. I finally phoned the front desk and begged for something to be done about it. I saw the front desk guy go to the street and talk to the security guard but nothing happened for almost a half hour. At one point in time a fistfight was starting to break out. It was crazy. I couldn't sleep so sat in the window watching the goings-on.

I also shared the elevator with drunk males who reeked like a distillery or a brewery. After a drunk male couple started a strange conversation with my eleven year old in the elevator it didn't feel like a great place to stay with kids, even on weeknights.

The valet parking is expensive and there is no self-serve parking on site at this hotel. The parking lots a couple of blocks away make you pay $10 each time you enter, so this is not a cost savings if you do 2-3 trips out in the car each day and it was a dicey area for walking after dark, in my opinion. There was a colony of homeless people who set up a settlement of sorts under the highway a few hundred feet away, for example.

The valet service was sometimes slow making me wait 20 minutes to get the car when no one was around. They often had just one attendant on duty. In order to try for decent service I shelled out a lot of money on valet tips.

The hotel is brand new and the rest of the stay was standard Fairfield Inn fair which is fine and well with me. My problem is this physical location, the noise due to the bar crowd, and the parking cost and slow service for valet parking.

I have stayed at the Courtyard Marriott next door and will review that also.

I also bet if you got a room on the other side of the building you'd not have the echo chamber or the bar crowd walking down Bonham to contend with.

Room Tip: See if you can get on the side of the building that is not on the Bonham side.

This is the second Fairfield Inn of our holiday and the reception we received from the Front Office Staff was second to none, efficient and friendly. The pool area is a little windy with limited sun. Breakfast was good with a reasonable selection of items. Although the Valet parking is $21 a night this is a small price to pay for peace of mind. All in all a first class stay.

The hotel is standard for a fairfield inn. Hotel seemed new, or at least recently renovated. Rooms were clean and looked fresh. Everything else is about what you expect from a Fairfield Inn. The locations is great as it is very close to the Alamo and other attractions in downtown San Antonio.

On the other hand, if you visit this hotel plan on valet parking your car as the only option (for $21). Neither the valet nor the receptionist were very helpful in pointing out different parking lots where we could leave the car overnight. The other thing is that if you room happen to be on the side of the nightclub across the street (bonham exchange) then you might as well go clubbing because that's how it is going to feel like in your room.
The worst part though was when I tried to ask for a late checkout and was told that since few guests have asked for it already that it can't be granted. Mind it that I am a Marriott Rewards Gold Elite and that I am guaranteed late checkout. When I pointed that out, the receptionist indicated that she could give me a check out at 12:30 PM (regular check out at 12)!! Pathetic!

Staying at the Residence Inn across the street seems like the better option. They have their own garage and late checkout or the noise from the night club seemed less of an issue.

Room Tip: Pick a room on the other side of the nightclub especially if it's the weekend. Also, make sure y...

Loved almost everything about this hotel--desk staff was helpful, room was clean and very comfortable, the free breakfast was yummy, the walk to the riverwalk and rivercenter mall was very convenient. All the folks who complain about the breakfast should just be happy that this hotel serves a free breakfast, as many hotels in this area do not. Only 2 small complaints--the rooms weren't cleaned up until late in the afternoon. I came back to my hotel one day around 4:00 in the afternoon, and the maid saw me enter my room, and she never stopped to clean it. They have a freezer with frozen treats in the lobby, and although I was dying to have something sweet, I couldn't make myself spend the outrageous price they charged. A fridge and microwave in the room woud have been nice as well. I traveled alone on this trip and I felt very safe at this hotel. That is good, given that there are homeless people and "shady" characters just a couple blocks away around the Alamo and the downtown area.

This hotel is brand new and is ideally located near the Alamo and main strip of stores/activities/restaurants while visiting San Antonio. It is also in walking distance (about 10mins) from the riverwalk which was the highlight of visitng that city. The rooms were kind of small and there was no microwave/fridge so that was the one downfall of the room. The bed was very comfortable and I slept great. You have to pay 21$ for parking if you park here which was another downfall of this hotel. If I were returning here I probably would look for a better Marriott as there seems to be one on every corner of this city (one that had a fridge and microwave).

This was a very nice hotel near the Alamo, short walk to River Walk, excellent rates, friendly staff, nice size/clean rooms, fitness center/pool and free breakfast. The breakfast was muffins, hard boiled eggs, cereal, bagels, fruit, egg sandwiches, make your own Texas shaped waffles and coffee/milk/teas…..We will be back.
