“Monthly patron”
Reviewed June 7, 2013 via mobile

I have been a patron of The Barn Door since 1972. Yes! 1972! I just gave you a good guess of how darn old I am but this steak house rocks. Out standing steaks, baked potatoes and iceberg salad with one of the best assortments of salad dressings in the city. Great place for large family gatherings or a table for two. Take a stroll around the Restaurant to look at all the many photo's, articles and collection of household and farm memorabilia. Mixed drinks and wine from the bar are delicious with the bar tender able and willing to make what ever you hankering for! Girls this place has the best "Victoria Secret" in town. Yum. Great wait staff. Steak a bit to done, they will fix it! They want you happy.

“Still Good After All These Years”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

Always good to return to an old favorite. Excellent food, especially the steaks. Service was wonderful and waiter was helpful. The bar has a nice cozy atmosphere. A little out of the way, but well worth going for lunch or dinner.

“Classic San Antonio”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

This restaurant dates back to 1953 and any San Antonian worth his or her salt has enjoyed a good steak here. Enough folks inside and around Loop 410 still seek it out to keep it going amid the competition from pale excuses of steakhouses in the form of "moderate-priced" chains. It's a downhome feel here, with checkered table cloths and friendly, hustling waitresses. When you're in the mood for someone to grill you a steak away from your own backyard without breaking the bank, The Barn Door still rocks. Big salads would be average but for the presence of a fine, garlicky dressing. Baked potatoes still get loaded at the table and the hot dinner rolls still rule. Get there early and you can enjoy a stiff drink and half-price appetizers in the old bar that features a horse-racing theme. This is the kind of authentic restaurant that you hope your city never loses.

“Old Standard!”
Reviewed April 29, 2013 via mobile

Went to Barn Door for my birthday. Always love it. Great steak, loaded baked potato or awesome mashed, and good salad. Ask for the potato fixings (bacon, cheese, sc) with salad so you can dr. It up! Some of the best hot rolls in the city! BD never disappoints.

“Good family restaurant”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

My best friend loves this restaurant, so we went one evening and have been back several times on our own. The decor matches the name. Hanging from the ceiling are "hams" and other "meats" aging until they are ready to cook--just for decoration purposes. In each of the dining areas, you will see the cooks turning the meat on the grill. The filets are bacon-wrapped for flavor, so on a few occasions I've found it a little too greasy. They are served with a salad and baked potato complimented by their outstanding yeast rolls. Dressings are provided in plastic jugs for pouring your own amount on your salad. You definitely won't leave here hungry. The food is mostly very good to excellent. It is definitely a good value since it won't break the bank for an evening out. They have a full bar, and the place is quite large, so even on a Saturday night you can get in. They do take reservations, so it's always a good idea to make them so you don't have to wait. It's not the kind of place you'd go to for an intimate romantic night, but it a great place for dinner with family or friends. Enjoy! We're going there tonight.
