“An Amazing Surprise”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

Attended a four day convention at the Hyatt next to the downtown Convention Center. As I was driving on Commerce St. toward the motel from I-10, I was a bit disappointed because of the surroundings. Upon arriving though I was pleasantly surprised. What a lovely intimate motel in a quiet enclave. The check-in was very pleasant as well as the room. Furniture that seemed to come from an old hacienda with a ceiling fan. Beautiful Mexican tile surrounding the sink area. Refrigerator & microwave were helpful. There were two leather chairs with ottomans. Very comfortable. Walked daily to all my meetings and felt safe the entire time. Did not have breakfast but for those interested, it is very, very basic. Looking forward to staying there again.

Had 3 rooms for one night. 2 rooms were adequtely clean. 1 room had roaches in one bed. Spoke with manager and they exchanged the room for another. New room ok but the confort level after the experience with the first room took away a better rating than what we gave the hotel. Management should inspect every room for cleanliness and make sure that the facility makes the best impression upfront rather then deal with sanitation and pest control issues with guests. Mattress should be remove from box foundation so that under the bed is cleaned and no surprises occur. The facility is small but priced at the right level. It close to downtown SA.

This was actually a great place to stay. It was a small motel with clean rooms and was pretty quiet most of the time. My friend and I slept great here for the two nights we stayed. Most of the people that stayed there were like us, leaving for most of the day and sleeping all night.

As far as the neighborhood, yes some of the houses in the area are run down but no it's not a "bad" neighborhood. It was quiet and no one was really out during the day or night. I didn't hear any cars with loud music, no parties, not even the train that was nearby. You shouldn't really walk to the Riverwalk anyway because of the construction going down the street actually, its just better to take a car or bus. What you can walk to is the burger place called Mark's Outing. There are even a few cafes and bars going towards the direction of the Riverwalk.

So really, this was a great place to stay on a budget. We had a room with two beds that would comfortably fit two people each. The bathroom was clean (very important), the bed sheets smelled fresh, the carpet looked well kept, and the wifi worked perfectly.

Only two things were a little annoying but overall not a big deal. We didn't have an extra roll of toilet paper in our room just in case and there was no kind of juice in the morning for breakfast, just coffee.

Room Tip: Make sure to tell management if you're handicap and can't climb any stairs, there isn't...

This is a great, offbeat little place in a sketchy but slowly regentrifying neighborhood (some of the other reviewers used the word "rundown," and while that's not untrue, the area's not nearly as scary as they make it out to be). The hotel's only about eight easily walked blocks from and about $300 a night less than the Riverwalk. No amenities to speak of, but the rooms are quite nice and you have the really cool sense of staying somewhere specific instead of the same old place over and over again. My young kids loved it because they thought it looked like a castle.

We stayed for two nights. The area where the hotel is situated is quite old and a little scary. It's about a twenty minute walk to river walk etc, and coming back in the evening was a bit spooky for women. Breakfast was almost non existent, no toast or cereal, just a couple of Danish pastries and a muffin. We really don't regard these as breakfast foods. There was nowhere to eat breakfast other than our room. We skipped it and went into town for breakfast. It would be better if they simply sold the room without breakfast, then guests would not have any raised expectations. The room itself was okay, wifi didn't work very well.

Thank you for you Comments.
The common comment for this area has been about Bad neighborhood. The area is not Bad But it is Poor. ( Been here during Construction phase and opening of the Hotel, To my surprise Nothing has gone broken or robbed compared to other 3 Big Brands Hotel I manage in San Antonio) Just like Many Cities in united states have a poor neighbourhood near downtown this one does also. The San Antonio city has Rezoned this Area to push it to be a better neighbourhood. We are the first ones to come in, unfortunately. Hopefully the change will happen soon. If we were able to provide a better breakfast and be in a Richer neighbourhood then the Rates will reflect the same. In fact due to many Comments we are in process of just providing Coffee and no breakfast at all. I Do Appreciate your Comments about rooms being okay. Our Internet has a good speed, The company that provides 24/7 Support has to many Hoops attached to it to connect to internet for the safety of the network.

As soon as I pulled up I thought to myself, "oh hell no, my stuff is going to get jacked." I stayed two nights and loved everything except the parking (the picture is accurate). The staff was extremely accommodating, the room was gorgeous and the bathroom was really clean. The next morning I drove around and realized the neighborhood was actually very pretty. The neighborhood seemed safe enough and even charming (after my initial shock).

The ad makes it look and sounds like it is down by the riverwalk. Well, it isn't. We finally found it in a very bad rundown part of town. We decided to give it a try anyway. So after paying for the room, we went upstairs to find it had not even been cleaned since the last guest left. Towels laying around, bed unmade, etc. We left and went to a decent ( of course we had to pay more) hotel downtown. I will never stay at a Knights Inn and can not believe Trip Advisor gave it a good rating. Someone must have been paid to write those reviews. I have trusted Trip Advisor to steer me to good place. I am wondering what I will be walking into next with my other reservations. Shame on American Legion for listing it on their website also. Live and Learn.

Room Tip: Beware of Knights Inn. You get what you pay for.

Apologise for the Mistake from our side. The two Rooms were left Dirty Due to shortage in housekeeping from previous day (A Common practice in every segment of Hotel Industry ). The desk person did not check on that particular room and Rented it to you. This should have not happened but it does happen, it is inevitable in ANY segment of the hotel industry. You just dropped the keys and left without giving us a chance to correct our mistake. You would have just given us a chance to show you and prove that it was an honest mistake and we can correct it. Neighborhood is poor not bad but have proved to be safe till now.
