In San Antonio on business, and several friends recommended Rudy's. We were surprised when we pulled up to a gas station. But tacked onto the side is a real, old fashioned TX BBQ joint complete with picnic tables. Again voted the best (worst) BBQ in TX, the meat is excellent as is the sauce. The real treats though were the cream corn and peach cobbler. Don't eat at Rudy's without trying these staples.
The place is come-as-you-are. All the seating is outside. Also, they offer a military discount. My only complaints are that they only serve Pepsi products, and the only beer is Bud and Coors. How can you have a real TX BBQ joint and not serve TX beer.

Went for dinner after reading ta reviews. They were accurate. BBQ dive in a gas station. A little pricey for big family, but what isn't. Brisket was one of the best ones I've had. Sauce was a little to tomatoey for my taste, but still worth 4 stars.

We had dinner on last day in town with family and it was a nice evening for sitting out doors so Rudy's was a good choice. We ordered Sausage, half rack ribs, brisket with BURNT ends, potato salad, beans, creamed corn, pickle, and small cobbler, with cokes and teas. They offer a veterans discount. I believe 10%. And this was the least expensive meal of the whole trip. The only thing we couldn't try was the chicken which was on a 25 min. Wait. They offered turkey and gave us a sample. We thought we'd wait on the chicken but we were stuffed and couldn't eat another bite. Very fun atmosphere and food.

Barbequed turkey was very moist. Creamed corn was offered as a sample, and was tasty. However our Dad ordered the Potato salad, and everyone wished they had ordered that. Very good. Baked beans were ok...but made from pinto beans. Different than we were used to.

The service and food was cheap cheerful and rough and ready. My chicken was well cooked and came off bone very easily. I generally prefer sit down meals at table served by waiters or self serve buffet but rustic atmosphere was great fun if you like eating from paper and clearing own rubbish away
