“Business Trip”

The hotel was located within 2 blocks of the riverwalk and near the King William district. I took the trolly to get around when I had time to sightsee and it was very easy to do. The hotel staff was very friendly, the rooms were spacious and comfortable. They have a restaurant and bar as well as Starbucks coffee outlet, so I was able to get my favorite caramel machiatto. I would definitely return for vacation and business.

Our first impression of the hotel is that it is more of a motel to be honest. We arrived at 11pm and were met by the night manage with no food or beverage available other than from the small coffee shop (we paid the front desk for the items as it was not actually open). We had a ground floor room which was not really very nice. It is an older hotel which appears to have been recently refurbished but has not been done all that well. The sliding door to the bathroom was dragging and heavy to operate. The shower/bath plumbing leaked the entire stay despite being fixed twice. The aircon was average to say the least. We are Starwood preferred guests and were disappointed with the property. It is a short walk to the river and quite safe during the day. A lengthy walk to places like the Alamo and Rivercenter Mall etc. We would not stay here again. Found a young lady working in the bistro to be lovely and she was the saving grace. Young lady in the bar was awful. Unfriendly and a disgrace to be frank. Free internet was good.

The San Antonio Downtown Sheraton was not quite what I expected as far as a Sheraton hotel goes. It was nice, we had a living room area with a couch, as well as a nice sleeping area. The bathroom was a little akward. It was located inbetween the to areas, and having the sink and mirror outside of the bathroom made the room look kind of cheap and motel-like. The bathroom wasn't great either, the tub was kind of dingy and the tiles were a little worn and mildewy. The bed was great, it was very big and very comfortable. Free bottled water was a nice suprise as well. I did not see the pool or any other eminities, so I can't really coment on that. It is located a few blocks from the river walk, which is nice. They do charge $6 per night to park in the parking lot, and if its full, they own a couple of gravel parking lots adjacent to the property that they charge $6 to park as well. Overall, it was good enough, but less than I expected. Its across the street from a Hyatt which looks a little nicer if you are going for luxury.

I was surprised that I did not see any reviews for this property. I read somewhere this Four Points property was a former Holiday Inn Suites hotel, which was recently acquired and refurbished. The transformation appears to be quite extensive as our room looked newly constructed with all new fixtures and furniture. The only possible signs of recycled items in the room were the bathtub and the beds.

The suite we stayed at had two queen beds (one king is the other option). The bathroom and the sink separates the bedroom from the living area (which has a non converting sofa). Two 32-inch flat screen TVs were mounted on the wall, one on the living area and one in the bedroom area. The room is nicely decorated with modern colors and had quite a few functional touches (lots of places to hang used towels, lots of drawer space, etc.). It came with an under counter refrigerator but surprisingly no microwave.

Since this is our first visit to San Antonio, I simply looked at the map and chose this hotel primarily for its location relative to the Riverwalk and the corresponding price. As it turns out, the location was quite convenient. While not on the Riverwalk itself, it is about 1½ short blocks away. The Alamo, the RiverMall, the convention center and the “busy” part of the Riverwalk (near the corner of Commerce and Alamo streets) are easily accessible by foot and are about ½ to ¾ mile away. Getting to the Market Square (El Mercado) is a little further out (about 2 miles). Depending on the weather, this can either be a long walk or a trolley ride ($1.10 each way). The trolley stop (RED line) is ½ a block away from the hotel. Getting a hotel right on the Riverwalk would have been more convenient but would also cost significantly more.

Other amenities of this hotel are quite typical of this “grade” of hotels: daily newspapers, a small outdoor pool, a coffee shop, a small restaurant/bar, and computers at the lobby, which are quite convenient when printing out boarding passes. In the room there’s wireless internet access, free Starbucks coffee and free bottled water.

Parking is valet only and relatively expensive at $15/day (with in/out privileges). While I see this as needed during busy times (since they have a relatively small parking lot), it was somewhat ridiculous during our (off-season) stay, as there were less than 10 cars in the lot everyday. A lot next door charges $6/day for parking is a possible alternative.

Overall service by the staff was excellent and was quite attentive to our needs. This hotel was fairly priced and we had a pleasant stay.
