“The best mission!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2012

We thought Concepcion was the best of the missions. It is interesting to see how people lived in the mission, and the church is especially beautiful.

“BEAUTIFUL CHURCH”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2012

Not so much to see. If you have plenty time, go see it. If you are short on time, go to Mission San Jose.

“Smallish, Less Important Mission - Not In a Good Area”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2012

Having toured San Jose Mission (see my separate review), this one was a bit of a disappointment. Except for the church itself, there is not as much here and it is not as well marked. Unlike San Jose, this mission has not been restored. In fact, its claim to fame is that it is the oldest un-restored mission in Texas. Time and the elements however have eroded most of its beauty, particularly the colorful fresco designs on the front of the church. You can see the original frescos in the sanctuary of the church.

There is no visitor center here and really only one building. It appears to be located in a less desirable area, as there were various, notable signs warning you that cars parked here have been broken into. When I visited (a weekday in February, not prime tourist time), the place was desserted and felt a little scary. In all my wandering around San Antonio, this was one of the few places that I did not feel totally comfortable. (In general, I thought San Antonio was the most friendly and safe big city I've visited, but this place just felt a little off.)

“small mission - good for a quick visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2012

This is a small site with not too much to see. The San Jose mission is much more extensive.
