Owner description: This cathedral was built in 1873 to replace the original founded more than one hundred years earlier.

The Cathedral is on the town square of San Antonio, about half way between the Riverwalk and the Market Square. It is surprisingly lovely and quiet on the plaza. The inside of the church is ornately decorated with a beautiful altar. The remains of some of the heroes of Texas are entombed there too. There is a nice gift shop next to the Cathedral.

I was staying at The Drury Hotel, this church is just a couple feet away. I didnt get a chance to read up on its history, but its really pretty to take pictures of at night, since theres lots of pretty lighting all around it.

Off to the side of the front door is a tribute to the Alamo heroes. Nice looking, basic cathedral in what used to be the center of town in the old days.

So beautiful and peaceful. Pope John visited the cathedral and there is a statue and plaque in remberance of his visit.

This cathedral has been the center of San Antonio life for over 280 years.
It is a great example of period architecture, but the windows appear to be 1950 vintage.
On Friday afternoon, you may see brides going to get married at County Court House and have pictures made in front of the cathedra.
