What a wonderful way to find out about the history and the peoples of Texas. We happened to visit on a day when there was a new citizenship ceremony taking place. What an honor to witness. The displays are exquisite and will be of interest to anyone with a thirst to better understand Texas.

A few clarifications: The Institute of Texan Cultures is a Smithsonian Affiliate, meaning, the museum occasionally hosts Smithsonian traveling exhibits, artifacts, speakers, etc. The museum is operated by The University of Texas at San Antonio. The reviewer also mentioned that the Institute of Texan Cultures was hosting a naturalization ceremony the day of this visit. In partnership with the federal government, the ITC does this about 10 times per year (once a month, typically the third Thursday). - James B., ITC Communications

The Institute is a great way to take in the full scope of Texas history and the various groups that settled in this glorious part of the world. It isn't just cowboys and Indians.

This is a wonderful museum. Packed full of information regarding the history and cultures of Texas. The museum starts with the native american groups that called the area home, then moves into the European and Asian groups that settled there. It is amazing to see how many different groups of people settled in Texas. From Irish to Swedish to Czechs to Lebanese. This museum has exhibits that covers that and MUCH more.

The docents that are spread throughout the museum are wonderful. There was a woman at the sharecroppers house and a woman spinning cotton (she was AMAZING!) and women quilting. They were all informative and really enhanced the experience.

We spent most of a morning wandering through exhibits but this spot could easily fill the day, especially the travelling Smithsonian exhibits (we just barely missed the Girl Scouts exhibit). I would say this is a must see in San Antonio

Wow, such a great experience! I was with a group of 6 foreign tourist, who had only 30 minutes to browse the museum, according to their itinerary. We all ended up spending over 2 hours! All thanx to the knowledgeable, patient, accommodating and entertaining guide Jerry! He told us amazing stories about different Indian tribes, their lifestyles and routines, explained aout their traditions and rituals; allowed us take pictures, answered our questions. We left with a better understanding of such unique mixed culture of Texas, with a sense of new respect of the ancient history of US. Great place to bring kids! Must take a tour with a guide!

The Institute is a nice educational opportunity but not the best event in San Antonio. We had a little extra time to work this in but I guess I was expecting a bit more. The museum does showcase the many cultures that helped start San Antonio but I would not make this event a priority.
