Blue Star Contemporary Gallery is a frequent stop when visiting San Antonio because there is always something great to see. The newest exhibit which runs through August 18 of San Antonio Painters is a must-see. Eight local artists work is exhibited. A very enjoyable exhibit!

Interesting exhibits at the Contemporary Art Center and many artisans in the adjacent studios.

Had always wanted to visit this area, which has several art spaces. LOVED the San Angel Folk Art Gallery, fabulous selections & Hank can direct you to the best restaurants in town! The Contemporary Art Center had a very cool installation out front but didn't open until noon. There's a casual brew-type restaurant here as well as galleries, photographers and other artists. Watch out that you don't accidentally try to walk into someone's living space! Get off of the Riverwalk and enjoy other places in SA ... Southtown is very cool!

We were in San Antonio in early December 2008. I saw articles about the Blue Star Arts Complex near the King Williams District. It is located across the street from the Guenther House restaurant. Since we were in the area we thought we would wander through the art galleries. There weren't any that we could find!
The complex Could Be a good place to visit BUT there is no cohesion nor cooperation between the artists and their "stores".... It appears that Blue Star is an area of "artists" renting spaces to work in an old factory district. Therefore these "artists" are doing their work but don't seem to want to market or sell anything to anyone. That is okay for them to have their workspace but the Blue Star Arts Complex should not advertise this old factory space as a "destination" for tourists. Only a few of the numerous artist's workspaces/ studios appeared to be open. We felt very uncomfortable walking between the large buildings, looking for shops.
There was a brew pub restaurant located in that complex. It appeared to be doing a good business but it must be only locals that know about it. There are almost no signs on the street side of the Blue Star Arts Complex and it is a very non-descript old factory setting. I guess the general public isn't " artisty" enough to get the concept of the Blue Star Arts Complex.
