“Big Let Down”
Reviewed June 14, 2008

We stayed in one of their suites, and won't return.

Positives:
Location.
Friendly front desk staff.
Great air conditioning (important there).
Bathroom was spotless.
24-hour free business center.
Free long distance.
Free Internet.
Free soft drinks and popcorn after 3pm.
3 free happy hour drinks.
Free breakfast (waffles, scrambled eggs, french toast, bagels, juice), was plentiful but low quality.

Negatives:
We asked for housekeeping at 1pm and it still wasn't done at 3pm. We heard several other guests complain that it was late afternoon and their rooms still weren't cleaned either.
The carpet was dirty.
The room was run down.
The only air vent blew directly onto the bed, and when I tried deflecting the vent vanes I got black stuff on my hands, possibly mold.
Construction was going on in the lobby, so they gave us a discount, but we still won't return or go to any other Drury hotels.

We just returned home from our 4 night stay at the Drury Inn & Suites Riverwalk. Our stay was nothing short of perfect. We were immediately greeted by a parking attendant, and was pointed in the right direction. At check in we were greeted by the most friendly front desk staff ever. There was some confusion with our reservation (we had reserved a non smoking room and instead had a smoking room listed on our reservation) and since the hotel was almost completely booked, we had to keep a smoking room, but were moved to a suite overlooking the Riverwalk. There were 4 adults and 2 children staying in the room and there was plenty of room for everyone to move around without being on top of one another. We stayed on the 7th floor, which made it convenient to et to the pool. The rooftop pool was actually heated, which was great for those early morning swims for our 5 year old girls! The workout room seemed small, but we didn't use it anyway. The Happy Hour was nice for the adults and free drinks and snacks in the lobby were helpful with 2 small children. I cannot begin to describe the friendliness of this staff! We were greeting with a "hello" and a smile from everyone employed by our hotel. If we needed anything, we knew all we had to do was ask. Nina at the front desk was GREAT!! We spent part of our summer vacation here, and we were made to feel right at home! We will definately stay here the next time we come to San Antonio!!

  • Liked — The friendliness of the staff, plenty of room in the suite
  • Disliked — Parking was a little tight since we had a bigger vehicle

Just got back from San Antonio Riverwalk and I must say Drury was great! My husband and I needed a little weekend get away and it was everything we expected and more. The location is great, not in the thick of things, just down the way a bit and not too far to walk to be in the thick of things! Even though the lobby was under remodel, we barely noticed it. The staff is one of the most courteous I've encountered while traveling and every employee we dealt with went out of their way to help us with a smile on their face. The complimentary cocktail hour was awesome, we made a stop before we left for the evening and the hot breakfast the next morning was the bomb! We are already planning to stay in December for our anniversary! Thanks Drury, we WILL be back. Oh and the beds were VERY comfortable. I like the parking arrangement as well. I felt our car was safe & secure and we were able to bring our luggage right in the door to our 3rd floor room.

Loved everything about the Drury Inns and Suites on the Riverwalk. They were very courteous when we arrived 4 hours late due to Amtrak. The free popcorn and drinks during the day hit the spot! The breakfast choice was great AND delicious!
The location was wonderful. The staff made all the arrangements for our rental car and for the taxi to take us back to the train station. We loved everything about the hotel and look
forward to staying at other Drury Inns and Suites!

I recently spent a 3-day weekend in San Antonio and stayed in this hotel. I originally thought we were staying in the Drury Plaza on the Riverwalk (which is literally two buildings down) but there was some sort of miscommunication along the way and bf booked this one instead. Both hotels are on the same street so be sure to pay attention to which one you're making a reservation at! Anyway, we requested an early check-in without any problems and our room was ready when we got there. Check in was a breeze and the staff was very nice and friendly.

As other reviewers have noted, they are currently renovating the lobby, but this wasn't really an issue as we never heard any noise coming from the area that was blocked off. We did, however, hear some noise from the construction going on next door to the hotel, but it wasn't bad at all. Our room was actually on the construction side and we didn't have any issues (and I'm a pretty light sleeper).

We had a king room (not a suite) and it was a pretty average size. One suprising thing was that the ceilings were really high which made the room feel more open and airly. There was nothing special about the room though. Everything seemed clean, but other than that, nothing worth mentioning. One thing to note though is that they don't really provide any toilettries (just a bottle of shampoo and a few bars of soap), so be sure to pack your own.

All in all, the hotel was decent and I would probably stay there again. The extras were a nice bonus - free breakfast, free internet access and business center, sodas and popcorn in the lobby, and adult beverages and snacks at happy hour in the evening - but this obviously isn't the Ritz so don't expect to be wowed. I definitely think this would be a great place for a family or for people who aren't planning on spending too much time in the hotel, but if you're looking for a bit more of a "classy" experience, this isn't the place for you.

  • Liked — The location and the extras that were included.
  • Disliked — The elevators - there were only 2 of them and they were ridiculously slow.

Even though this hotel's lobby is under remodeling construction, the staff was extremely friendly, helpful and professional. We loved the "extras" that are included in the price of your stay including the "hot" breakfast, free happy hour drinks/snacks plus free soft drinks and popcorn. This hotel is located right on the riverwalk and very centrally located to many restaurants and clubs on the river. Even though we didn't need to use it, they also have a parking garage that is directly accesible to each floor of the hotel. We did use the pool facility which was very nice (including the fact that they furnished convenient towels at poolside. We would definately stay at this location again and would recommend.

We really enjoyed our recent stay at the Drury Inn and Suites. First, the good things: 1. Location-It's towards the south end of the Riverwalk, where it is a less crowded and noisy, but within a very easy walking distance to where the "action" is.
2. Clean-Despite the construction going on in the lobby and next door, this was a very clean and well-kept property.
3. Friendly-I believe every hotel worker-from the front desk, to the traffic guy outside, to the people working the breakfasts and "happy" hours-told us "hi" or "have a nice day" or "good morning"--always something cheerful. It was definitely noticeable and we appreciated the effort!
4. Breakfast-We had a nice hot breakfast to start the day--there were sausage and eggs, biscuits and gravy, apple and cherry danishes, cereal, fruit, oatmeal, orange juice, apple juice, coffee, and water offered.
5. Happy Hour-Each resident is allowed 3 drinks per day between 5:30-7:00. They had margaritas, tequila sunrises, vodka and tonics, and other mixed drinks available; also, they offered draft beer and even sodas if you didn't want alcoholic beverages.
6. Free Popcorn and Sodas-The popcorn is freshly popped and they have cans of Pepsi products available free of charge from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm every day.
7. Room size-We had a nice 2 room suite with a separate bedroom area and 2 televisions. They have very comfortable recliners and a comfortable sofa.
8. Television channels-Lots were offered, including free HBO. We didn't watch much, but I'm sure many would enjoy.
9. Comfortable Beds-They have great pillows and we slept very well all 3 nights we were there.

Now the "bad" things:
1. Elevator service-Wow, these elevators were slow and small. They only have 2 available, and even though there are only 7 floors, we often had to wait SEVERAL minutes to get on-and many times they were so full we had to wait even longer for another one with more room.
2. Construction-The entire lobby appears to be getting a face lift, and it gets kinda loud in the lobby. However, we never heard any construction noise in our room or in the eating areas. (And, they let you sign the partitions--we liked that touch!)
3. Bathroom size-The bathroom area is a little cramped even though the rooms were of nice size.
4. Parking-The parking spots are small, but we never had too much trouble. They allow you in and out priviliges, but we only left once in 4 days. The cost for us was $14 a day--not good, but not as bad as others (I heard the Palacio del Rio was charging $35 a day!!)

Overall-We had a great time at this hotel, and we would definitely stay there again. I'm looking forward to coming back! We felt it was the best "bang for you buck" location on the Riverwalk!
