Owner description: Bar which has changed little since the days when Teddy Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders here.

This historic bar is dark, intimate, and small. You know the minute you step inside that if the walls could talk, they'd share some wonderful stories. Order a drink made from scratch, the old-fashioned way, and wander around to meet new friends, admire the artifacts, and wonder how Teddy signed up so many Rough Riders from this watering hole. Just across from The Alamo in the Menger Hotel.

It was a really chill, layed back adult atmosphere, no young adults were in there, which we liked. The bar was busy so we sat up on the balcony, just the 2 of us, which was romantic. We got a margarita and a white Russian. They were really good! We could have stayed there all night.

If you visit the Alamo, save time to walk across the street and have a refreshment at the Menger Hotel Bar. This is the historic place where Teddy Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders. Wood paneled with photos and a great exhibit in the hotel lobby hall. A small part of history, but pretty cool.

Fun and historic atmosphere, good drinks, friendly staff, and old country music...just about everything a native Texan needs.

Very neat bar, located in a side door of the Menger Hotel. There are bullet holes from Teddy Roosevelt's gun and just a ton of historic stuff inside the hotel and bar. This place is right across the street from the Alamo. You have to come in and you visit San Antonio!
