This place is amazing. It is quite big and there is wonderful history everywhere. The walls are so high and thick and you can see where the Spanish peasants lived within the wall. Definitely worth a visit.

The history involved in the Missions is just amazing. The churches are beautiful and I can only begin to imagine what it was like back in the day. Something I learned on this trip, which should have been obvious but I never thought about it, was that these buildings were actually painted and decorated on the outsides back in the day. They were quite well maintained. This one had been painted on the side to demonstrate what it would have looked like back then.

Mission San José is very large and the gardens are beautiful. I would recommend a guided tour because they explain the history of the place, however I didn't take one because I have young kids who do not stay still. We enjoyed our time there walking through it all. Makes for great photos.

I often take visitors from out of town here to witness the amazing Mariachi Mass---the joyful sounds fill the church and flow out of its doors! The visitor center has a short film describing area missions, which offers a great overview.

A very beautiful church, we have a sunday mass at 9.30am with the locals, they are very friendly. My wife get a beautiful rose on mother day, very sweet. The remains of san jose was not really well maintain but you still can enjoy the beauty of its architecture. Go around the remaining fort and dont forget to visit the visitor center for the small museum and souvenirs. All of that, there's no admissiob fee. Great place to enjoy, spend minimum of 1 hour to visit.
