La Cantera Resort & Spa
Ranked #27 of 358 Hotels in San Antonio
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 23, 2013

We stayed here in February for a family weekend celebration. There were 12 of us from all corners of the globe. The weather was extremely poor and I think that may have dampened my enjoyment of this hotel.
The hotel is set in the hill country just outside of San Antonio, but unfortunately all we saw was mist and rain, so I cant tell you if it was pretty or not! It was freezing cold, so we were not able to take advantage of the pools, which did look lovely. The men all set out on saturday to enjoy a round of golf, and they did enjoy it even if they did get very wet.

Before I critisize anything else, I have to say that the staff here are exeptional. The standard and quality of the service here is very very high, as you would expect from this quality of hotel. The food in Francesca`s was wonderful and the lunch we had in the other restaurant was also very good. They also have a coffee shop cafe and the food and coffee here were really good value and quality.

My husband is also a SPG Platinum member so we use the Westin group a fair bit, and I have to say that I was very dissappointed in the room. It was beginning to look dated. They put us in a large room with a seating area, but it was a long long walk to anything else in the hotel. As we were with a large group, I thought that they would try to keep us all together, but the rest of our party was in a completely different wing of the hotel, so too far away to drop in to see. Also when we arrived, there were wet paint signs along our room corridor, and the smell was very strong. Thankfully it wasnt bad in the room. But as the hotel wasnt even nearly full, I dont understand why they even put peole in those rooms for that night.
Our room overlooked the pool area, and we were woken up in the morning by kids in the pool making a lot of noise. If we had been staying any longer, I would have asked for a room change.
The food and drinks were on a par cost wise for other hotels in this category, but I am afraid that I find $16 for a glass of Chardonnay hard to take.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room away from the pool area.

Please accept our apologies that your room wasn't to your liking. It sounds like our front desk staff upgraded you based on your platinum status without taking into account the rest of your group. We are glad that you still enjoyed your stay and hope you can try us out again with better weather.

I was there on a convention. Was given a room in the main building on the 4th floor, one of their "Pure" Deluxe Queen room with an air filtration machine-although didn't ask for one. Machine was quiet and the room feels relaxed. For a sound sleeper, I can honestly say that my room is very quiet. Bathroom has a tub with handheld shower/rain-shower options. Heavenly bed did not disappoint. The room has a small balcony with a view of the pool. The catering is good, from breakfast to dinner, except after breakfast when some of the wait staff were talking in the back in Spanish during the lecture that I could hear it in the front. There are valet and complimentary self-park. The self-park lot is down the hill from the main building. Don't worry, the bell staff use golf carts to shuttle guests back and forth.

Room Tip: ask for one overlooking the pool, you can see the surrounding hill country as well.

I stayed at this property for a meeting. The rooms are equipped very nicely. Comfortable beds, nice rainfall shower head, separate toilet room inside the bathroom, double sink, easy plug in for charging multiple devices at the desk, easy wifi conection included with room charge for up to four devices at standard speeds, balcony with great view. The hotel staff was very accomodating in every area. The room felt very comfortable and was very large. The hotel is located near the shops at LaCantera. The hotel provides a free shuttle to the shoping area. Valet and self parking are available. The pools looked very nice but it was too cold to use them. If in this area again I would stay at this property.

A friend and I went there to rest and celebrate for Valentine's Day. As usual, it was fabulous! The view is magnificient, and so relaxing. We had a beautiful view of the hill country. The pool was a bit on the cool side, but the hot tub was perfect with wine or margarita. We also attended the on-site wine tasting. It was a good value ar $10 per person. It highlighted Texas wines. The staff was very friendly; however, staff was lacking at the bars. I had to hunt for 20 minutes to find a bartender.

My husband and I came for an extended weekend getaway with our 3 young children and had a great time. Full disclosure: We are SPG Platinum members, so I'm not sure if that factored in to our treatment at the hotel.

First, our suite was very clean and nicely appointed. We had a gorgeous view of the pool but never had issues with noise on the pool deck. Each morning we enjoyed breakfast in the club room and the variety of foods available (especially with 3 picky kids) was really quite nice. During the day we hiked along the trails at the resort, swam in the pool and ate at Brannon's Cafe. The cafe has a nice selection, is very accommodating when it comes to food allergies, and is very family-friendly.

Later that evening, my husband and I took advantage of the child care service offered and ate at Francesca's - which was AMAZING. This is not a place to take kids; rather, it is a lovely, romantic setting to have a quiet dinner.

The kids' club is very nicely done - there are plenty of activities during the day and they do offer an evening program in which they feed the kids dinner, show a movie and have other planned activities while mom and dad have some quiet time. We also caught the wildlife show on Saturday morning, which was really neat! The host was interactive and the kids had a lot of fun.

We spent the next day at the Riverwalk - I don't know if the hotel offers shuttles there, though. We took our own car.

This is a lovely resort and is unique in that it works well for an intimate getaway or a family trip.

The restaurant at the Westin La Cantera resort named Francesca's was awesome. The food was moist, melted in your mouth, and had just the right amount of seasoning. My compliments to the CHEF. The service was great as well. Whenever anything was needed the waiter was around and was well versed in answering any questions menu related. Overall an amazing restaurant, would return and recommend to family, friends and everyone to visit.

The property is gorgeous. Very close to shopping, eating, etc. The entire staff is very friendly. VICTOR HERNANDEZ did an awesome job of making our stay even better than we could have expected. We had a girl's night out. The weather was not so great, but thanks to Victor, we had fun anyway. We plan to come back at least yearly! The sincerest of thanks to Victor and everyone at Westin La Cantera!
