(See comment on San Antonio Missions National Park as I was thinking that was the Mission Trail. The Trail is well worth going on - each structure/mission very different from the last. Easy to follow the Trail too!)

We took a few hours and drove to all of the missions. The different buildings and grounds were very interesting, and beautiful. It was kind of like visiting the ruins in Italy. I know, no where near as old, but hey it's the USA.

We rode the trail from downtown at Houston Street and back. About 20 miles total. Bike racks for storing/securing your bike at each spot. The bike trail was under construction in parts so we went on the roads. Like most of America, they were a bit rough. But the trail was well marked and easy to follow. One should visit by car or bike.

At intervals of less than 4 miles each, you should go on and visit the other missions that are so close to the Alamo. Mission Concepcion is very well preserved and as old as the Alamo. If you want to get a feel for what the Alamo was, visit at least one or two of the other missions on the Mission Trail.

The Mission Trail was a bit confusing in trying to locate the four Missions but with the assistance of MapQuest on my iPhone, I did manage to find all four.
